how to make the lights beat to the music on a dual?

ok i got duals and i wanted to have the light beat to the music so i hooked up the light to my speakers and they work but 2 mins later the chip for the lights over heats and smells really bad why is that :(
is there any other way to make the lights to work?
 
It's probably because your giving too high of a voltage to the lights. I'm not an electrical engineer (yet, in progress), but you could use voltage-reduction circuit (prebuild or google to make it yourself), so whatever input voltage you give it is taken to the voltage the lights expect.
