how to cancel HD

I am currently renting a 6100. My 1 year contract is up in September and I am thinking of canceling my HD package and returning my 6100. I also want to get another 4100 in replace of it. How and when do I cancel the HD service? Should I call ahead of time or wait until the contract is up? Also who is responsible for the return costs to Bell of the 6100. I got the 6100 as an existing customer which I have been for about 7 years.

Sign up as soon as posible for the 4100 to make sure you have it alredy installed when your contact expires

2 Options:
-Rental:You call or customer service center which would tranfer you to the Direct Sales office. They would charge you a 50$ activation credit on a credit card right away and 75$ for the technican to install it on your next Express Vu bill. The 50$ will be credited on your first Express Vu bill after you activated the receivers (It would cost you 75$ + 3$/month)
-Purchase:Go to your local Bell Store,Future Shop or autorised dealer and buy one. It would cost you 99$

On the day that our contract expires call us and we would deactivate the receiver. We will then sen boxes to return the receiver

There's that nasty money grab "we must hook up your receiver because our customers are idiots" fee again.

I learned in business the best way to succeed is to be EASY to do business with.

I can't believe that I would be charged $75 for someone to install a receiver for me. It is the most money grabbing charge I have read about for my situation with Bell being a long term customer. I have installed my own dish and system before when I moved. I have "disconnected" my receiver several times for furniture rearrangment, cleaning, painting, etc. I would think that I will be definitely opposing this fee if its brought up when I call. There is no way that Bell can expect customers to believe that this will make the install any less professional if I "install" a rental receiver myself. Imagine, disconnecting a sat wire, unplugging the power cord, plugging in the new receiver cord and sat cable, and walking away $75 richer. I don't think its gonna happen with me. There are other competitive options around here as well. Even if it was credited back that would be ok....but to charge you and not credit you for it.....unbelievable.

You should call at the end of your contract - they will probably send you a return kit on their dime.

I'd switch to Rogers or SC before jumping thru these Bell hoops. It's not like Bell is the leader in anything anymore - except for # of rules & regulations to annoy paying customers.

Excuse me - have to leave to watch a show on National Geographic HD, followed by a movie on TCM.

you should call sooner than that. Just about a month before the contract is up. Never wait until the last minute to do it.

I am mot cancelling the contract totally.... I currently rent a 4100, I also own (1) 2700 receiver. I would be simply cancelling the HD service and returning the 6100. I would still maintain the package with the standards and 5 themes as well as the 4100 I currently rent. Should I still call in August 8th to change that part of my service?

I defy any EV installer to figure out how to connect a receiver up to my system. The maze of connections for 2x9200s, DVD player and 2 HTPCs using HDMI, component and digital audio is a wonder to behold. :D Never mind the HDMI switch, UPS, surge protector 8 remotes, 5 RG6s, 2 SW44s and sat/cable coax multiplexers. Half those guys can't even install and connect a simple single receiver dish setup properly.

On second thought, make that 1 out of 5 installers that could do a simple dish and receiver installation properly. I've had to fix every EV installation that was done by an installer. The first dish started to fall off the roof, wasn't grounded properly and wasn't terminated properly. The second caused problems when the leaves came out in spring so I had to move the dish. Before those there were the *C installers from hell.

I would cancel it now considering their current billing practices. You should be able to return the equipment to a Bell World store if one is available?

Yes August 8th would be advisable.

You have to forgive Agent, she almost always jumps in with an answer without fully understanding the situation, its a product of being at a Call Center and not being fully versed before offering answers.

Or the 80% rule as a Manager at Express Vu calls it, (80% of the time it is the correct answer)....lol

If you chose to go back to Express Vu HD in future you should be able to find a refurbished 6100 for $149 or wait until the MPEG4's come along.

I believe that dirtyjeffer said not to return receivers to a bell world, they can't take them. They send you a package and sticker lable, you call a number and a couriour picks it up.

But Robert you are served in London by an Installation Company that is just beyond useless. Vu Point Systems must be greasing palms at Express Vu because what I see of their work it is embarrassing.

They don't know how to run cable, they drill holes that are not needed, it's a disgrace to visit some of their installations.

Now they are expanding into the GTA, God help people.

Hey but what do you expect when they are paid peanuts.
$40 for an installation.?

I would call at least 30 days ahead of end of contract. EV required 30 days notice for some things. That will give them enough time to do the paperwork and arrange for receiver return and replacement . I've found that 30 days notice is not always required but it has been known to be an issue.

Well I called to get the HD service cancelled. Turns out without realizing for the last 12 months I was paying for rental for a SD receiver instead of a HD receiver. I am going to have to pay an extra $7 for each month. The CS agent ws very helpful though. They will send me out a box to send the 6100 back when ny contract is up. She also said to me, in contrary to what Agent Expressvu said, that if I want another 4100 in replace of it I can call sales and they will send one out for me to install my self with no extra fees only the $3 rental. The agent even gave me her employee number if I needed to call back for anything. So while I hate to have to pay an additional rental charge I must commend the CS agent's professionalism.

If an additional charge was some sort of necessity (installing a new dish for example) I wouldn't have a problem with paying extra fees. But to pay to have a rental "installed" it is not right.

There is no Bell World in my area....my contract is up Sept 8 so I should call around August 8th I guess. I was looking through the mumble jumble contract you have to try and read though, and I did not notice anything about 30 days notice all the same.

Well it sounds like it has all worked out in the end.

I am very surprised to hear that Rental units are to be shipped out but hey its a straight forward exchange so good for you.

Is the new 4100 going to be on a 1 year agreement.?

Brooker, I'm sorry to tell you this but you'll have a little surprise when you can the sales department. To get a new receiver, you need to get a new rental agreement (read: contract). That means an installer comes to your house to install it and it's not free unless you take a 2 year agreement. The application that the sales reps use cannot send out new receivers without an appointement. Good luck anyway, maybe the policy changed or they thought you were a special case.
