how to cancel HD

It may be hard to find or not even there, but as advised, best to err on the side of caution in case grief is coming your way.

BTW, why would you cancel from Canada's leader in HD?
Smokin' lineup they got.

They used to have Canada's biggest HD lineup, but now with Shaw adding the eastern HD channels all the Canadian providers have similar HD packages. Rogers has more, *C has more coming, and Shaw is catching up quickly. But if you want NFL Sunday Ticket and NHL Center Ice in HD in Western Canada, Bell is still the only way to go.

Alex9091, since when has an Existing Customer been able to get FREE installation, even of Rental Equipment.?

My thinking was 1 year agreement and being carged for installation, hence my question of his term.?

Why don't you just buy a 4100 for only $99 and install it yourself? That way you would be sure to bypass the ridiculous $75 hook-up fee.

I haven't actually ordered the 4100. I am going to wait to make sure that everything goes as it should first with my requested downgrade. The CS agent said that I would only be charged for installation if I requested it. Hopefully shes right. If in fact shes incorrect I will buy one sometime in the future. I will ask about it though when I call back in September. The CS said that there would be no need to have it installed by someone since the cables were already there. I already have a rental agreement with my current 4100. Maybe they will allow me to add on to that current agreement.

I was fooled by a misinformation Nimiq 1.

You are right, only NEW installations are free of charge. Anything else is 75$. On the counterpart, the receiver you get is guaranteed for life. I still think it's a high price. Brooker, I think that if you complain loud enough they could waive it.

You might call Bell now and ask the rules. Then call again and speak to a different agent -- then compare notes.

Bell, I believe, has a "end of billing cycle" downgrade policy. If your billing cycle ends on the 15th of the month, you can call on the 8th and downgrade effective a week later (the 15th). If you call on the 9th, you wait about 30 days.

If you "cancel" before the contract ends, you may have to pay a bunch of extra fees because you "broke" the contract on day 359 of a 365 day contract.

Tread cautiously; but certainly cancel ahead of Sep 8.

Whilst it might not be "right" to you, it is the Express Vu way.

All NEW Rentals are installed by Technicians, regardless of existing cables etc... There were a few Bell World Stores that carried rental receivers but this was an error by Bell Distribution, who shipped out receivers and not the Rental kits.

You might be surprised to know just how many replacement receivers shipped out to customers end up being installed by a Technician because either the same problems exist or the customers just do not know what cables go where.

I do not see this policy changing in the near future. Having said that, there may be some leeway when MPEG4 receivers arrive but there is nothing official yet. Watch this space as they say.

Again just to clarify;

I think it is only guaranteed for as long as you pay the rental fee.?

Or in Bell Speak, guaranteed for the life of your rental period.?

Thats a perfect answer if he is just exchanging a receiver.

If he is adding a 3rd receiver, then you need to factor in the multiswitch as well.

Or for an HD, there is the Upgrade Kit to factor in.

ARR...to be honest I am just not impressed with the channel lineup. It looks like a lot in numbers bu when you get into the content it doesn't impress me. Oasis, Rush, Equator, A&E,Sportsnet, just to name a few are either channels I wouldn't watch or else the HD content is low. I wanted it mainly for Raptor's HD, but I was disappointed in the number of Raptor HD games. TSN is probably the best one there in my opinion for HD content, and then there is still the ocassional issue with freezing. I think in the last 30 days I have only watched maybe 5 hours of programming that I wanted to watch that was actually in HD and not SD that I had to stretch it to fit the screen. Basically it is not what I was expecting it to be.

Buy a used receiver online, probably for less than $50
Charge to install your purchased receiver=$75 + $3 a month to rent it
If you are lucky, you may get a cheap PVR.......

I would suggest that you look at the SC programming options then. You may be able to pay less/month and still have some of the HD you want.

Call us to sign up for the 4100 as soon as possible. We could only initiate a return process once the equipement has been disabled on the account so we would have to wait until your 4100 is installed to be able to request boxes to be sent out to you to return the 6100

Express Vu never ships rental unit. The agent you spoke to was wrong... If you call again and ask the same question you will get the real answer:you haveto pay the technician's charge 75$ for hm to come and install a rental unit. You will also haveto buy a rental certificate (50$) on a credit card, which would be refunded on your first Bell Express Vu bill after you activated the receiver.

I would place my orderas soon as possible to make sure I won' have an interrurption of service

I still have 3 other receivers so I am not desperate for the 4th right now. I remember some time ago a local place was having a half price sale on 4100's. I can wait for something like that again if I have too. I really would prefer to rent it but I refuse to pay $75 for installation if what AEV says is correct. I will check it out today and report back.

just to update.... I just called again and the agent did say that I would have to have it installed for a $75 non refundable fee. Since I don't own it they have to "verify" it is installed correctly. Its funny...you can have the common sense to use it for years under who knows what kind of circumstances, but apparantly Bell does not feel we have the common sense to hook it up ourselves in the beginning.

No providing it's new, just head out to a Bell World, or other retailer or buy on-line.

The $50 is for a Rental Kit.

Kind of a let down isn't it.
All the hoopla about Canada's biggest HD lineup, but under closer scrutiny, it just doesn't hold water.
The eye candy soon wears off.
And off course the extra HD fee doesn't make it any more digestable either.

Some of the other players have smaller lineups and the HD is free and may just meet the needs for the average person, check around, HD is worth it IMHO, you just have to make the right choice of providers to get get what you want.

Either that or you'll have to wait a few years for programmers to catch up with consumer expectations.

As they say, bigger isn't always better.

I think I am going to just return the 6100 and not replace it at this time. So when should I call again to return this receiver? My contract is up Sept 8. My billing cycle is I believe is a few days earlier on the 2nd of each month. Help me out people.
