How much would I have to spend to hear the difference in 266 kbs vs 320 kbs

IMO you can hear the difference. It is very slight though. I do have an ear for car audio though. In most cases you won't notice. Try both and see for yourself.
 
for car audio? I am going to be listening to audio in my car using an iPod and HD radio, but I am wondering if its worth continuing to buy CDS and rip at 320kbs, or just download from iTunes at 256kbs. I would buy CDs and rip to 320kbs, but only if I could hear a substantial difference.
