Yes.
My last one was a heavily modified '88 model. 250 KX fork springs, white power rear spring and re-valve/re-gas, extended stinger cone and pipe mods to internal baffles for grunt/mid, Staintune race muffler 40% longer, split perch levers, Nicad battery pack, additional coil windings (ran 2x50 watt spotties), XR headlight and blinkers, Dunlop K139 front, K88 rear for racing or Chen Shin for trailriding. No significant engine mods as the standard one is sweet and ultra reliable, six months to get jetted right though.
They are not 'fast' - but they are quick as a whippet, in tight stuff not much can touch one if set up well. Light and very controllable with a jewel of an engine and very predictable handling.
It's not a big bore, so don't expect brutal power and you are fine. One of the best Jap bikes of the time, without question one of Kwaka's best too.
