How does the Kawasaki Ninja 250r cope with motorway speeds? Is this bike

suitable for motorway use? I'm trying to be responsible by choosing a smaller bike as a first venture into motorcycling. The ninja 250r looks appealing but I'm slightly concerned that the bike won't have enough grunt to ride comfortably at motorway speeds. I'm in the UK - so 70mph, though it would also be nice to know the bike's good for 80-90mph. I ride about 20 motorway miles each way to work. Anyone out there with one who regularly rides the motorway?

Good on you for being responsible but a small bike doesn't make a difference safety wise. I think the 250 might be a bit tiring to ride at motorway speeds for very long. A Suzuki SV650 is a good first bike and would cope well with your commute, my first was and still is a Yamaha Thundercat which I use on the motorway for 20 miles from Basingstoke to Southampton each day. A 400/600 is manageable for a first bike and won't be as stressed on the motorway. Best thing to do would be get a test ride on a Ninja and take it on the motorway.

I saw a video of the ninja 250 riding fast on the freeways! Go to the web site below to see it, it's on page 2 of the videos

yeah it handles those speeds fine, even when its windy they seem to do ok and doing over a tonne isn't impossible on those bikes.

This bike can cruise for reasonably long distances at 70 MPH.

Depending on the size of the rider, the top speed will be somewhere between 110 to 120 MPH.

It can cruise for shorter distances at 80 MPH, however the engine noise and vibration may get annoying after a while.

Yes, assuming you are not 300lbs and 6'5. I have the 250 so I CAN ACTUALLY SPEAK ABOUT IT, I live in los angeles and go on the freeways all day at 80-90 mph. I can get up to 100 but I don't want to get a ticket or kill myself. and doesn't UK have laws restricting the engine size for a beginner ? Get some ear plugs, the exhaust can get annoying but beyond that highway riding will ruin your hearing, its because of wind noise not the exhaust. At the end of the day a 250 is a learners bike, learn how to ride properly and when you upgrade you won't immediatley total it or have bald centers because you didn't learn how to counter steer. Get a used 250 for cheap and if you feel like you want to upgrade in a few months than you can. But you will have learned how to manage that power, this is the purpose of the 250, to learn. good luck
