America is "terrified of sex" in many instances. If you have ever lived in other countries, you would see the difference immediately. They have full nudity on television every night on regular channels (though in some more conservative countries this happens at 8pm and later. Other countries have nudity in comics, front covers of mainstream magazines, in artwork in plain view of anyone who can walk down the sidewalk. It is more mainstream culture - not taboo like it is here. They look at the silly issues we have, for example janet jackson and the famous wardrobe incident at the superbowl. We FREAKED out that we saw partial boob. I was living overseas at the time and people could not understand why we freaked out over nonsense. It's a naked body. It's sex. We all have it and do it.
How does it feel living in a culture like this? Well, as long as we believe that nudity and sex are taboo, as long as nudity needs to stay under the shelf and as long as sex should only be discussed in private, we will continue to have more sex crimes than these countries that embrace this side of human nature.
Japan is a country I have lived in that is very much the opposite of America in this regard. Compare our sex crime statistics. Don't you think there's a connection?
