How do I put a satin oil finish on my drums?

I have a pdp z5 set. It is silver. But I wanna make it with a black background with blue fading upwards. I have been playing drums for 15 years and I only painted one of my sets( my first one) and lets just say that it was not too pretty but it was a fun project for a kid trying to learn about his insturment. Anyways I want to do this color with satin( like some dw drums). I dont want a shine to it. Then I will put black hardware on it! I know it will look amazing. but I dont know how to start. I have never used satin oil before and honestly i dont even know what it is. I already know how to strip everything off off the drum( it is wrapped) and sand it down a bit. but thats all i know. Do i primer it, one or two coats? idk. so if u can help let me know. thanks
