how do i make custom RINGTONES???

i have a boost mobile incognito, and i want to put custom ringtones, how do i do it? i tierd the recording the song like a video thingy, but it sucks....and ventones doesnt work for some reason, how do can i make my own songs off the computer as a ringtone to my incognito? thanks
