How different are the "Made in Finland" and "Make by Nokia" versions?

Nope....we dont all agree....
Shure Microphones were manufactured in Chicago and later Mexico. The ones made in the city it originated from are drastically different than the cheaper made mexican mics. I collect vintage harmonica microphones and elements made in the 40's and 50's absolutely destroy any modern day mexican made elements....Fender amplifiers were made in the US before CBS bought them out in the late 60's early 70's. The US made are the most coveted and sought after amplifiers in the world today. WHere it's made makes a huge difference IMO. if it's cheaper it will not be better.

Just curious, 'cause some people here seem to avoid those "Made by Nokia" like plague

I've owned a couple of "Made by Nokia" phones for years and never had any problem with them. Is there any stat showing they're more prone to being faulty?

People on the forums say that when they compare their Made in Finland phones to the Made by Nokia ones, the Finland ones are more stable in terms of build quality and hardware. I personally don't see any difference, since I'm just happy that I have my phone.

Good point! N91, the new generation phone also built like a tank similar to the 1st generation phones.. Even "Nokia" made phone was built solid. Want to hear from the folks who love the finland made phones on why the Nokia made phone was solid??

yeah some people on the forum think the phone which are made in finland but again thats is what they think and its ok with me coz i have used phones made in finland and phones made by nokia too and didnt really saw any difference so for me as long as it is nokia i will buy it regardless of where it is made

Does anyone know for sure that the phones are actually manufactured and not just assembled in finland?

yes i m one of them, made in finland's build quality are much much better than made in nokia in my nokia phone experience. Note that does not mean that made in nokia are always worst than made in finland

Take iPods.. they are made in China. Do you agree that iPod build is bad?

Good global corporations have good quality controls in place. They maintain the standards no matter where they are made. Taking advantage of the labor in APAC/LATAM countries doesn't mean that the quality will be bad. It is just our mind set that it will be cheap.

my 60 gb ipod is starting to show some wear. the front casing is starting to noticeably slip and slide and my wheel was never flush out of the box so yes....ipods have some imperfections as well. Anyway, what's the point in building factories in other countries? Cheap Labor....and you get what you pay for.

Again...here are pics from a Finland plant

..and pictures from the "made by nokia" plant

You be the Judge..

I'm a Finland made person as well. I've owned 2 "made in Nokia" S60v3's and 2 "Made in Finland" v3's and the build differences were dramatic. In fairness to the "Nokia" made phones they were N series where the "Finland" made phones were E series. Not sure if it's due to the fact that the enterprise line is meant to be more durable but even still the build quality was dramatically different IMO....I still believe the N73 will creak no matter where it's manufactured just because of the design and that scares me because the N95 has a similar build and if it's a creaker i'm going to be pissd! Pick up my made in finland E50 for sale to see for yourself!!

Imo. there's no difference. I've always owned "Made by Nokia" S60 phones (from the 7650 to the N91) and I've had any problems.

Wages have no meaning in absolute terms. It's cheap labor compared to Europe or the US. Doesn't mean it's cheap for other jobs in the region or that it's any indication of quality.

Wouldnt cheaper labor be indicative of an employee with less training and experience and wouldnt that result in lesser quality? I know it does in my line of work. In fact, in my business there is a fine line between functional and affordable. Companies like Nokia take that into consideration as well. Profit.

It has no relation internationally. There are different costs of living and expenses. The people manufacturing the "made by nokia" phones could be getting paid 3 times the average income in their country, so they would, relative to other workers, probably be well skilled and experienced. That holds true regardless of how much someone in another country makes. They're only related if labor is mobile, which it isn't in this case for the majority of workers in these countries.
