How can I install MIDI on Linux?

I'm pretty new to Linux and I don't know that much about it or coding. Could someone give me step by step directions on how to install MIDI on Linux? I managed to get Guitar Pro 5 and Power Tab Editor working, but they don't play sound at all. I'm assuming they don't play sound because I don't have MIDI.
