Different generations have different heroes and legends. It says a lot about the popular culture of the time they live or lived in and what was going on in the world, what people were like and the kind of person they considered to be a hero. The heroes of today are quite different than the heroes of my parents and Grandparents generation and understandably so. As the world changes and the new generations make their way, their voices heard, their particular style of living, the heroes will be different and reflect that.
