Horrible Dubs You STILL Enjoy

That would be true if the changes in Digimon 01 and the first half of 02 would have been small. There were lots of edits and changed lines in those seasons that ruined several serious moments of the anime (Most notorious example being episode 53).

Well, I thought the last episodes of 02 were OK, after Nimoy and Bucholz left.

Cheesier, definitely. "Horrible" is debatable, but I definitely consider several portions of 01 to be bad for any sort of dub standarRAB. Apocalymon was supposed to be uber-serious but when the guy starts talking about pizza you know something is not right.

Nimoy and Bucholz left? Coulda fooled me. The last episodes were still packed with bad added-in jokes, even some from Daemon of all digimon! And didn't Nimoy return for all other dubs anyway?

And I've actually been rewatching 01's dub and it is not horrible. You only seem to be citing one example of Apocalymon, which definitely sucked but was not the only thing to judge the dub by, especially since it was only the second-to-last episode (Apocalymon stopped with the bad jokes in the last one.)

I said on my first post that Digimon's dub was not all bad and certainly not horrible or painful to watch. Then garfield15 stated it probably better than I could've. It probably should be horrible, but it's not.

(And BTW, my favorite Apocalymon dub line is still when he goes "Wait a minute, what am I laughing at? I'm supposed to be depressed!" It almost sounRAB like unintentional lampshade hanging to the fact that he's being written so out of character. )

Well, I'll give you the fact that several episodes are actually dubbed well, and there are still some episodes I haven't seen. I've also compared it (not in this thread) to the Spanish dub, which is the one I saw first and it's much more faithful to the original, despite having some name changes.

Perhaps my opinion would have been different if the English dub would have been the only version I've seen, I don't know. I just think it's very for me to say the Digimon dub is "good" when I compare it to what the show is supposed to be like. You might say my opinion is invalid, but it's what I feel.

As for Nimoy and Bucholz, I believe their last episode was the World Tour three-parter. Never saw Tamers and Frontier in english, so I don't know if they returned for those.

One last thing. Am I the only one who finRAB weird that Digimon (and other dubs) had "Written by" credits for the American writers. I can understand things like Translators or Script Supervisors, but how much from scratch do you have to write to warrant a full writer credit?

I've seen both versions and I know when and where the dub screwed up. (Like in that mini-arc at the start of the Myotismon storyline with Demidevimon trying to split up the Digidestined. The dub botched up the timeline and flow for those episodes, particularly with Izzy's experience in Vademon's dimension. ) I just find there to be merits in the dub that the original doesn't even have; so much that they prevent it from being the horrible mess it very easily could've been.

Unless you count the part where, in the first 3 seasons, the characters tell what happened in the last episode, I don't think the Digimon dub ever broke the 4th wall.

I'd have to add my nostalgic love of Sailor Moon. I actually thought it pretty funny.

Digimon I'd also have to say didn't really have that bad of dubbing (well, for voices, I mean) as much as horrific botching with the editing and added jokes and stuff. I'd need to re-watch the dubs one day again to remeraber. lol I dunno, it must have been good enough for it to still be one of my most favorite animes to this day. I also thought Data Squad's version was dubbed quite good and even not as badly altered as the previous series had been.

I could maybe add some of the Transformers Unicron Trilogy. Good lord, I can't stand the dub of either Energon or Cybertron yet I still watched it! Armada, too. I think that one was easier to stand because the animation was at least still 2d and nice looking. Energon and Cyberton, though. THE PAIN. Oh wait, are we supposed to be enjoying the bad dub itself, or just able to enjoy the show despite it having a bad dub? lol Anyway, the Japanese version dubs though I actually could get through without wanting to stick a fork in my ears. XD It's not all of the voices, though, just some. But the dialogue is pretty awful, too. But I love Transformers...so. And yes I'm aware that those shows were made between the US and Japan, but they still have two separate version dubs, so I'm still counting it.

If I can remeraber anything else, I'll come back but for now that's pretty much all I can think of to mention.

Digimon is a unique case because while the voice actors are legendary and they all gave great performances, the material they had to work with ranged from decent to tolerable to absolutely insulting at times.

Therefore, the dub was both horrible(script) and amazing(voices/emotion) at the same time.
