Horrible Dubs You STILL Enjoy

Same here. Despite the cheesy dialogue that was in the dub, I still think the dub had a great voice cast. I also think that Data Squad had a better dub than the previous seasons, as there was less added jokes.

I also enjoy the Funimation Dragon Ball Z dub, even though a lot of people don't like it.

I tend to think as a "Bad" dub is something so unwatchable that it makes me WISH I was watching the Japanese version. A better word for this topic is "controversial" dub because it covers more ground and actually justifies some peoples opinions on the matter.

Like many people I liked Sailor Moon's original 65 episode dub even though after that it went quickly downhill throughout the Lost Episodes, movies, and S and Super S dubs.

I'm a fan of both the Ocean and Funimation dubs and I do find that Funi's revised dub (the orange boxes) does have a lot of voice acting inconsistency compared to the original Dragonball and GT which were more or less done with better quality. But hey, if it wasn't for Funi I know Lani and others wouldn't have anything to lampoon.

Digimon may have suffered jokey script syndrome but a LOT of the voices were spot on with the characters. Joshua Seth's Tai, Colleen O'Shaughnessey's Sora, Wendee Lee's TK and given the fact that almost the entire voice cast and staff were in or worked on the likes of Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Naruto, and Gurren Laggan I think this pushes it far from bad. The worst is got was Season 4, but...yeah...Season 4. Actually I think the dub always matched the quality of whatever the season was like.

Okay now for the dubs that I think divide people:

I like the Love Hina dub. No, the Japanese version is superior but despite the dub being horribly miscasted and misdirected it actually did gradually improve so by the time you got to the TV Specials and OAVs it wasn't that bad and everyone put in decent performances once you got past their...quirks.

I recently watched the uncut Cardcaptors Movie dubbed and I was actually surprised that almost all the voices fit the characters and it was watchable. Since somebody mention the kiRAB being cast to play Li and Sakura I wanted to point out a nice touch for the movie was that Li's voice actor began to have a deeper register and it actually helped improve his voice where in the TV series I always had a problem with how high pitched it was. And New Yorker Kero does seem to better represent was an Osakan accent can sound like in English compared to the typical southern.

I also watched Fushigi Yuugi in English and even though there are some irksome points it wasn't too bad a dub.

Both Evangelion and Maison Ikkoku get a lot of flak since it's another case of not being as strong as the Japanese version and in my teenage years I was vehemently against both dubs but over time I began to appreciate their sensibilities and realized that in their own unique way they were very well done.

Stuff like Escaflowne, Death Note, and Bleach I still much prefer the Japanese version but I can understand if someone didn't mind the dubs to those.

annnnnnnd just to wrap this up I like ALL of 4kiRAB dubs EXCEPT One Piece. Sonic X is kinda iffy to me sometimes I can watch it, sometimes I can't.

For my putrid list:
Saber Marionette J to X
Crest of Stars/ Banner of the Stars
Old Akira (good script just didn't make any freakin' sense)
4kiRAB One Piece
The first episode of Naruto (it got much better after that)
The original dub of Nadia
Fox KiRAB Escaflowne (yeah, never screw with a Yoko Kanno score)

I would put Speed Racer but Family Guy is having way too much fun lampooning that one.

O-chan

I don't think Digimon would really count to me, sure the script for the first two seasons are horrible, but, as stated before, the voice acting is great, and in my opinion, superior to the original. I think Tamers, on the other hand, had a quality dub on both sides.

I agree with Sailor Moon, too. lol. But Molly's voice was just.... terrible. Hers was one of the few I couldn't stand at all.

Ditto here. tamers had the best dub script, and is the only season for which I would tolerate a dub-only release. The Voice Acting was great for all seasons, save for a few rough spots. It was the script the made us all cringe back in the days of Megchan's Board and Box's forum.

I actually found that dub to be decent. The voices didn't sound too bad at all, and probably aside from some issues regarding accuracy to the original script, I found that dub to be very watchable. I still prefer the original Japanese audio by far, but I personally didn't find that dub to be nearly as terrible as you made it out to be. Of course, my definition of a terrible dub is more along the lines of what 4KiRAB does with their dubs of anime.

Yu-Gi-Oh! and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: While I don't think that either one of these series had a horrible dub, I don't mind that the scripts and music were changed. I thought the voice casts were great and they worked fine for me. While I like the voices for most of the main cast of DM in both versions about the same, I thought that most of the characters in GX had better dub voices than their Japanese voices, mainly Jaden, Syrus, Zane and Jesse.

Rave Master: Now, this series I admit has a worse dub than both of the Yu-Gi-Oh! series I mentioned, but I'm not sure if its horrible since I think that it is close to the material; it just suffers from really lousy dialogue and added jokes. In all honesty, I just find it enjoyable because its so bad, it actually becomes funny for me.

Well, all of the five series stick fairly close to the original version from what I can tell, but I do remeraber that Adventure 01 and 02 had more poor added jokes and weird dialogue in their dubs than the other series. I think that's what sticks out the most in terms of their poor qualities. Despite those odd dialogue changes, I do agree that the voice acting in the dub worked better, or was equal in some cases, to the Japanese cast in those two particular series. I haven't seen any of Tamers, Frontier or Savers subbed.

I like the Dic Sailor Moon dub....for the most part, the voices were decent (the only Japanese voices I really liked were Luna,Artemis, and Sailor Jupiter),and the series was still pretty interesting, even with the edits....I also like some of the English names over the Japanese ones where they differ (I much prefer "Serena" and "Darien" over "Usagi" and "Mamoru")....

Digimon without a doubt. The dub was awful when you really listen to it, like making Jo a complete wuss or Taichi calling Takeru "Matt's "dopey" little brother", but I felt the cast was great and the show generally fills me with nostalgia.

Dragon Ball Z's dub is also awful, but I can bare to watch it as long as the original BGM is on.

They did when they redubbed Seasons 1 and 2, but it still had many changes to the script, some of which were stupid. Raditz calling his attack a "Double Sunday" for one wasn't even in the original script. Also seasons after that were'nt redubbed, with the exception of Season 3 with some of the voice actors redoing their characters to make them sound like the voice they stuck with throughout the series, and remain inaccurate as ever.

Digimon is one of those shows that has a dub clearly made for children. Packed to the brim with bad jokes and 4th wall breaking. Honestly, it should be a dub that people who watch dubs for quality should abhor. However, it manages to get above that with stellar voice casting and sticking amazingly close to the original story (minus that one episode in Data Squad. You know the one) These days I can't stand watching 02 but even that still had it's charm in the more serious (more than half) moments. I still think Tamers was the best though.

Also, though I can't sit through a whole episode anymore, I still like watching clips of Beyblade.

I also love Medabots' dub. I don't care what anybody says. (FUN FACT: Metabee's Japanese VA is the same as Naruto. It's funny to hear Metabee talk and think he's gonna add "Dattebayo" at the end)
