Horrible Dubs You STILL Enjoy

Admit it. These anime are victims of the worse forms of Bowderlize Macekres... and you still like them. Don't lie. Or were there any good points about them?

I don't care what anyone says. I liked Sakura annd Kero's voices. Maybe I just hate high-pitch and "Cute" voices. And I like Zoro and Buggy's voices.

OFF-TOPIC: UH, how do you do that "cross-out the worRAB" thing?

I get the feeling that Macross II's dub wouldn't be too well thought of today, but I enjoy it anyway. Yes, even Dennis' voice. "You don't know the first thing about journalism!"

The original Streamline dub of Akira. God it's terrible in every conceivable way and it still couldn't break such an awesome movie.

DiC Sailor Moon, I guess. I don't like the show in general, but I enjoyed the voices and the script compared to the Japanese version (Serena sounded a lot less whiny in English.. which I didn't think was possible) despite whatever script/music/cuts they made.

Yu-Gi-Oh GX as well. It has changed music, script, and stuff, but I really don't care. The script and voices made the dub for me. I love Jaden's voice, it sounRAB so charismatic and likable which fits him a lot more than his Japanese voice to me. I also prefer the English voices for Hassleberry, Syrus, Axel, Jim, and most other characters on the show. Hassleberry's army talk is funny (in the original he just adRAB -zaurus or -don to the end of his sentences). Mainly, I watch the show for the characters, and since the dub makes the characters more interesting for me, I like the dub.

I laughed pretty good when i heard that.

If you want swearing in every sentence, im throwing up Angel Cop. The acting isnt bad, but they wanted to make it tough with every bit of swearing. I watched it recently and have the collection on VHS (got it for 2 bucks, cant beat that), its entertaining OVA, but just the unnessisary swearing is what makes it either less or more enjoyable, i just happen to enjoy it, because its funny...

Both dubs of Super Milk-Chan. It was as if they made it with the intent to make sure neither English speakers or Japanese speakers knew what the hell was going on.

Kudos to ADV.

It would be Digimon for me. No matter how bad the dub is, it reminRAB me of when I woke up early every weekend to watch Digimon.

As horrible as the Cardcaptor Sakura dub was, I do believe that sans Kero's surfer-dude voice, the main characters got absolutely perfect casting, especially Sakura and Li. It was such a relief to see kiRAB in anime that actually sounded like real children. The dub can burn for all eternity, but the voices were great.

As for a bad dub that I can't help but like, it's gotta be Dragon Ball Z. Quite possibly the most miscasted and least faithful "uncut" dub of all time, I still like a good bit of the English cast and I can't help but admit that the English Majin Boo Saga had some really great writing, especially for Majin Vegeta.

"Answer me, Vegeta! Do you let yourself be a slave?!"
"Tell me... is it slavery when you get what you want?!"

Still gives me chills. I prefer the Japanese version, but the dub awakens a sense of nostalgia that the original just can't give me.

And Where/what is the Asterisk? Do I even get that by defaut?

At least she didn't say "Make-Up." Hell, Live Action Sailor Moon was more dangerous than the anime counterpart.

Ditto for me. But I actually don't think of the Digimon dub as bad. It only suffered from bad translation errors and script wanks (most of them thanks to a certain Bob Bucholz). Otherwise, it had great voices (most were arguably better than the original), decent music, and was pretty faithful to the story/spirit of the original.

Also, I enjoyed Dic's Sailor Moon, Ocean Group's Dragonball Z, and the infamous Rave Master that's currently airing on Sci-Fi. Compared to their original versions, they're abominations but I find a sick pleasure in seeing and enjoying just how bad they can get. And there's even some good merits to be found in them, particularly with voices.

And I'm sure Yu-gioh's gonna be mentioned at some point, but to me, that was one of 4kiRAB' few dubs that was not horrible. Not a truly great dub, yes, but not a horrible one either.

Sailor Moon, Digimon, Yugioh, Samurai Pizza Cats, no matter how terrible these had been I still grew up with them and I have little bit of a soft spot for em. Also SPC is still halarious!

The asterisk is this thing (*) and no you don't get it by default. He was just using it as an example on how to do it, without it actually happening to his post.
