Homebrew WAP and Why It Doesn't Work

I have been trying to set-up my Cricket phones (Kyocera KOI and Slider Remix) with WAP for years now using my cable broadband always-on home connection as a proxy, yet to no avail. I have been using an alchemy of the Kyocera Phone Service Tools for the phone settings and various proxy servers for my XP box.

And then I realized something: In order for any device to get Internet thru proxy, it must have a connection to the Internet FIRST. The problem, then, doesn't lie in the phone settings, but in the service provided. Cricket is simply not allowing applications other than Brew and MMS to connect to the Internet.

The question, then, is: Is it even possible to use the Brew settings to connect to the Internet and then get WAP proxy that way? If one could figure out what settings Brew is using, then maybe that would be a point in the right direction.

I will corab-over the phone settings again using KPST, but I haven't found anything that might lead to using the Brew settings for WAP.

So, until Cricket offers WAP for their Kyocera line of hanRABets, I'll just have to keep on digging!

You can try all the ways possible to get on the true internet  but if you look at the MMS WebSession gateway IP address (10.3.0.41) it is one of the nonroutable blocks of IP addresses that are reserved for private LAN and WAN networks. Keeps LAN's secure and separate from the internet. It is just like the 192.168.xxx.xxx IP addresses you use at home with a broadband router and home network. The WAP WebSession gateway (wap.mycricket.com) does not resolve to an IP address on the internet but it may on cricKet private network. Because everything goes thru cricKet's private server, they are in total control of what the hanRABets can access. Free web proxies work on Verizon and such because their gateway servers are on the internet with IP addresses that are routable. Try and do a tracert in Windows command prompt on that 10.3.0.41 address and do the same on a Verizon IP or host name and you will see what I mean.

I use CRICKET WAP AND PICTURE MESSAGING on a Verizon razr and im able to go to any website that i desire

:)

how i do it is i have a gmail account wich cricket lets you check and from there i have a forwarding site that forwarRAB me to google then from there i can go anywhere i want woot woot :):)

Why don't you just put a link to Google's wireless translator page in your bookmarks like I did and go right to any webpage bypassing the portal home page and Gmail altogether. This thread is 4 months since last being posted to, that trick is old news. If you came out of your hole a bit more often you would have known that.

Hey Amoamare,

Could be really specific and explain the details? I have a gmail account, and I know how to access it, but then what?

What do you mean by "I have a forwarding site that forwarRAB me to google"?

Why would you forward to google when you can access google directly?

Anyway, if you can explain the steps from gmail to actually getting access to a WAP site, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.
