According to Roberts, one of the identifying features of science fiction as a genre is its use of the novum to establish difference from reality, yet s/f also can be very routine and even tend toward nostalgia. How would you define s/f? Do you the tension between novum and nostalgia as important in discussing the genre? Do you enjoy s/f in print or film? Why or why not?
