High fiber foods?

Can someone give me some examples of easy-access foods that are high in fiber?
I don't...do the "do" too often...or well, so I think I need to kick up my fiber intake. I'm starting to get paranoid about developing intestinal cancer.

fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans, legumes.

think a nice green salad topped with dried cranberries and some spicy toasted pecans or pumpkin seeds? a bowl of soup stuffed with a variety of veggies and a nice whole grain roll?
For breakfast, a bowl of real oatmeal and some fresh fruit.
Add flax seeds to cereals, smoothies, or?? more fiber and Omega 3's too.
add flax seed slowly, use ground, they sometimes work too well?
Fried brown rice with veggies?

enjoy,
Nan

Popcorn! I also throw bran into my oatmeal. It can taste a bit like sawdust on its own but adds texture to the oatmeal. And don't forget to make sure you're drinking enough water. That also helps keep you "regular".

There are two types of fiber one needs, also - soluble and insoluble.

Briefly, fruits (especially berries), veggies and legumes are where one gets soluble fiber (though some insoluble also).

Whole grains and bran have insoluble.

I would veto the idea of popcorn . . . except in moderation. It can be difficult for some to digest and some believe contributes to problems like diverticulosis.

Whole grains and fruit hun.

I have (had?) IBS - sometimes got bound up for days. Admittedly I eat a pretty bad diet esp. for a woman, and especially considering I am not significantly overweight...but I started adding whole grains, and eating a banana daily, and I'm as regular as the sunrise. In fact, I'm so "regular" my hubby will ask me "isn't it about time for you to take a ****"?

Maybe that's TMI...lol...

Wuai: I agree with everyone's suggestions. Just want to add this: "P" fruits - peaches, plums, prunes, pineapple, pears, and yes, water, water, water! You can also try adding some magnesium supplements to your diet. Magnesium helps with the bowels. You'll know when you've got enough of it because you'll end up with the diarrhea. Also, salmon and anything with omega 3 fats, like avocado, are good.

Exercise is also good for getting things moving.

If you get the diarrhea then you can eat the BRAT diet - Bananas, rice, apples and toast. Good luck with the flow!

Try adding evoo to your diet daily as this has helped me a ton. Thing with adding fiber is you need enough water to follow this or you will bloat up. too much fiber can add to constipation if water does not follow. Think of it like a big, thick tumble weed in your gut. You need the water to push things along. You can also try some miralax in the am to get things moving. Just a bit.
