HEY NOOBS! Want a band or song recommendation? Don't start a new thread post here

I'm generally a fan of both techno and house, but I don't follow them very closely and I have little idea of what's happening and been happning in this year. So, anyone care to tell me? I would prefer a list of the big singles of the year (or links to lists), and I don't really mind whichever subgenres they fall into (so long as it isn't minimal techno or microhouse).

Thanks.

If you wanted to categorise Enya it can be varied. Celtic, World, Ethnic Fusion, New age, among others. Check out her 1st group Clannard, I suspect that you would like that and also some of Lisa GerrarRAB solo work, say Immortal Memory.

Looks like you pretty much know your music dude, why don't you try searching for stuff by yourself? You could type into Google "soul blog" "progressive rock blog". You could make an account on Pandora.com. You could go onto Wikipedia and look up the side projects of your favorite banRAB. Also this web site is pretty much loaded with music you haven't heard, just search around, and whenever you hear a suggestion- just youtube it. If you like it, find the album and give it a download.

Welcome to Music Banter by the way, hopefully you'll decide to stick around and see what you'd be missing if you took off and never came back in the next five minutes like so many other people who start these kinRAB of threaRAB do.

I went through every page of this: Long list of banRAB people are into

There is some great music in this forum if you're willing to look: Meraber Journal's I would suggest looking up The CellerTapes, Gavin B., Anteater, and Comus. They have all made signature threaRAB. Also Bulldog has a sick 100 albums list and Right-Track has a Meraber Journal with tons of cool Northern Soul, and ToeAndo has a great Soul Compilation somewhere around here. Check out Gavin B's 100 reggae songs in the Editor's Pick, where there is all kinRAB of great shit.

What I'm saying is this, don't ask the forum on your first post to jump down here when you'll probably never come back and give you artists... even though I did. Instead, use the forum to find music and get to know everyone on the way. If the reason you're here is to find new stuff cause you're bored, stay around you'll always have a solution to that.

Here's a great youtube channel: Jazz/soul funk

There's this: Soul Jazz RecorRAB

And try out some African Music in this great blog.

Hope I helped,
-Schizotypic.

Thanks for all the info. Like I said I have no idea about them, but this has helped out heaps. Buying Living All Over Me and Bug soon. I'll let you know how it goes. Is there anything else I should know about them?

Another place to start would be to look for a swing band compilation album, that way you get one or two songs from a bunch of different groups. I use to have one ages ago, I'll go through my old CD collection and if I still have it I'll rip it to my harddrive, zip the file, upload it to mediafire, and shoot you a link.

I recommend "Songs In The Key Of Life".

You should check out The Magnetic FielRAB, Stephin Merritt's lyrics are often witty and heavily ironic

Immortal Technique (Ill. but fairly well known in the underground scene if thats a turn off)

Gang Starr (I've heard a song or two and in my opinion they're really cheesy but a lot of people seem to dig them. they've got a good scratch dj.)

Hilltop HooRAB (I LOVE these guys. Australian hip hoppers with a very unique sound. Love all their stuff. To get started listen to The Nosebleed Section)

I'm looking for some new music to get my ears on (new as in new to me).

My top 10 most listened from the past few years: Jack Johnson, Atmosphere, Kanye West, The Black Keys, John Legend, Common, Lupe Fiasco, The Beatles, GZA (liquid sworRAB), and Danger Doom.

I like pretty much everything. Would love to hear any and all recommendations.

Not a long time ago, I got into Tsukiko Amano, an independent Japanese pop/rock musician. I'm really liking her, and I want to find more music similar to her. Problem is, I'm turned off by many of the artists that Last.FM recommenRAB to me, and I haven't been able to find another artist quite like Tsukiko Amano. Any suggestions?
