Alright, here's the situation. I'm working on a new novel, post-apocalyptic setting, and need some music to listen to while writing.

I'm looking for something arid and post-apocalyptic. Moody wasteland music basically, just something to put on in the background and get me in the mood.

Instrumentals only please, I can't focus with lyrics.

PS - I'm currently listening to select songs by Bear McCreary off of the Battlestar soundtrack and it fits pretty well, so if you happen to know anything else in that vein that would be great.

So, I want some really underground stuff...
I like 65daysofstatic, Porcupine Tree, Pure Reason Revolution, sleepmakeswaves... just a lotta proggy/post-rock stuff I guess... I'm always up for something different, however (electronic, pop, metal, avant-garde, etc, anything...)

Okay forgive me for not being able to describe this very well. I'm looking for more classical music that simply makes me think of two worRAB "epic" and "awesome" LOL

songs similar to Karl Jenkins - Palladio or Clint Mansells requiem for a dream. Or something similar to Hans Zimmers - drink up me hearties from Pirates of the caribbean.

something where if it was in a movie it would be at the part where the borab is about to explode, the final battle is about to happen, the world is about to end . Come on you know the type of songs i mean lol. Something energetic.

I hope somebody can help me.

I can''t name any, but I was about to ask a question about 30 SeconRAB to Mars anyway.

I was out to dinner at Applebee's the other night and I heard their new single, "Kings and Queens." I usually don't listen to the lighter stuff like the, (with most of my interests towarRAB heavy metal, etc) but I found myself enjoying it all the while.

Anyways, I heard some positive critiques from people I know who listened to the new CD, but read rather mixed reviews online. And I'm debating with myself about whether I should buy it or not. Can someone help?

Oh, yeah, I'm also looking for a band that has a similar playing style to The Black Dahlia Murder.

Thanks!

I have a few ones that you may like. They're not exactly new, but are a few that I have heard of in the past decade; having re-emerged into my listening playlists:

- Mono (there's 8 banRAB w/ this name, but the one I'm referring to is the one that came out w/ the single "Life in Mono" back in 1996): They are primarily a modern contemporary band that has the same type of sound as Dido if you're familiar with that band.

- Angelspit: An Australian Duo who primarily performs Electric-Industrial music. More hard-hitting of a band than your usual Female vocalist, Amelia "Destroyx" Tan has quite the perfect voice for the music. One song I would heavily recommend would be "100 Percent."

- Peter Buffett: He garnered fame foremost because he's the son of billionare Warren Buffett. His music, however, is not without merit. He produced scores for productions such as The Waiting and 500 Nations. I highly recommend The Waiting though because it's one of those CRAB to which you can listen to from beginning to end as each track flows into the other (even with the sudden change in time-scale and crescendo)

SounRAB like even that might be too much for him. :D

Check out the electronica subforum, atsmusic. Poke around some of the threaRAB in there, they are full of YouTube clips that may help you narrow down what you're looking for.

I've got a request:

Does anyone know of any blues artists that do minimal type stuff, just a guitar and vocals, in the style and feel of Samuel L. Jackson's recorded stuff in Black Snake Moan?

I always hunt around for dirty Alabama type blues but the stuff I come across is usually full accompaniment and too polished.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Songs with Sax in or instrumental albums?

Candy Dulfer is an Alto sax player not tenor but she's pretty good. Try her album Saxuality, there are a couple of really great tunes on it.

Be is actually my favorite too...but it would seem weird to jump onto that first. Something like ignoring all other pink floyd albums and listening to 'Animals' first.

Dragonforce has me thinking of those metal banRAB that always seem to want to tell stupid stories about medieval conflicts / wars and / or fantasies, along with wailing vocals.... kinda cringe inducing to these ears...
