HEY NOOBS! Want a band or song recommendation? Don't start a new thread post here

I like inspiring, idealistic, revolutionary type of music. Kind of like Rage Against the Machine. Something that inspires me to do great things, (like in Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson), music about having a purpose and doing something for the world!

What do u suggest?

Could anyone recommend any essential compilations that document a particular scene or movement, like what C86 was to indie-pop, Deep Six was to the Seattle sound or what No New York was to no-wave. Anything would be appreciated.

if i want to make a post trying to find new music where should i do it? How? I can't seem to find a "new post" link...only a "new thread" link

One thing you have to understand is most of the "great" banRAB of the no-wave era produced no LPs. Mars, DNA, Teenage Jesus & the Jerks all have massive influence on the post-punk genre and music in general but there aren't too many surviving recordings. As far as albums go, I'd say that these four are my favorites:

Glenn Banca - The Ascension
James Chance and the Contortions - Buy
Swans - Children of God/World of Skin
J. G. Thirlwell (Foetus) - Nail (okay not really no-wave but this is f*cking brilliant)

I'll see if I can scrape together a compilation for you, might be interesting if I can even find some stuff I've always been curious about.

You should try Pain of Salvation as well!
They are one of my favorite in terms of modern prog.
Also, give Evergrey & Anathema a go. More or less similar to the banRAB you have mentioned.
Other than that, the ones above are top recs.

I occasionally come across a specific song that NAILS what I'd like all my music to sound like... It always seems to have some blues elements.
Recently a few of Ben Harper's songs are along those lines...
'walk away' and 'Ground on down' are both right up my alley... I've also, in the past, loved Chris Thomas King's version of Hard Time Killing Floor Blues...

Most of Ben Harper's stuff is not my style... and virtually all of CTK's stuff is not my style...

So... pick a genre and some artists for me.

if an alien came to earth from another planet where they didn't have music, what is the nuraber one first thing you would have it listen to (assuming said alien came in peace)?
