Hello, my friend,

I am interested to hear how you liked your physical therapist today...male or female? Did they do an evaluation?

I was very tight and sore from the trip, so my PT spent most of my session today doing massage, using ultra-sound, etc. trying to loosen up some of the tissues. Then she gave me some amazing exercises to try. One involves laying over a small stool covered with several bed pillows to raise it up even further. When I finally get into the right position, I can only lift my foot off the floor about an inch. My left leg is very, very weak.

I need to take my rehab more seriously and start working a lot harder. My PT has given me so much to do that if I did all the exercises, I would not have time during the day for anything else. I thought I would start working out at the pool, but I am now learning that many of the things I would normally do in the pool are detrimental to my SI joints, ligaments, etc. Since that is what we are working on (stabilizing the SI joints), it seems counter-productive to go to the pool unless I am really careful.

Hope you are out having fun with the "gentleman caller." ;);)

Well ....everything this week changed....

I wasn't sure I really liked the first PT place I was signed on to visit today..a bit too small, almost private and the therapist was young..With further research my Mom's therapist suggested a therapist who does specialize in spines...It's a nicer facility a bit bigger too.

I'm scheduled for tomorrow at 2:30 for the evaluation and it is a male therapist. I thought I'd try this a few weeks. I can always change later.. I also liked the local hospital because they do have the water therapy, but thought I'd only be a nuraber there. As you know it's a tough decision selecting the right place...More difficult than finding a husband..

Which leaRAB me to my date...Today he was helping his daughter move to NYC and he was sclepping sofas and stuff..we decided to reschedule for Thursday 'cause he'd be exhausted. He's driven here the last 2 times so it's my turn to see his place. It's an hour drive from here..I plan to stop and stretch my legs half way..

The good news is I've stopped taking the Darvocet..only extra strength Tylenol...

Sorry to hear you are stiff and tight....When you are laying over the stool w/ the pillows are your legs behind you...I'm trying to figure our the position you asre in...

Anxious to tell you what they have me doing...I'm starting to stress out things about heading back to work next Monday..I work in Special Events for Greenwich Magazine...I won't be able to move a thing, I guess I'll just oreder people around..we have so many May/June events coming up....I better pace myself.

Stay well...I'll keep you posted;)

I'm eager to hear how the appointment goes!

I had acupuncture today. I never get the feeling that it does much, but it is relaxing. My PT has given me so much to work on that if I did it all, I wouldn't have time for anything else during the day. I figure just being up and about is helping to build strength.

We're going out to dinner tonight and then on to see a play. Last time we did this we weren't sure I could walk from the restaurant to the theatre, but I'm not even thinking about it today. So progress is measured in small things!!

Can't sleep for some reason........ it's 2am...Probably too much sitting and driving today...1 hr and 15 minutes each way..

SOunRAB like you had a great time and I've heard wonderful things about that play....

Thanks for asking.....We had a wonderful day...Dick had me join him in Essex CT on his new boat...It was only on the CT river or I would never have said yes..very calm waters.....It's a Nordic Tug (37 feet)a very solid boat...I didn't jump around too much...He had an instructor teaching him how to handle it..It was so much fun I was actually steering for a bit...it was a beautiful sunny day..a bit cool but everything in full bloom...AfterwarRAB we visited Essex a charming village and then he cooked me a wonderful surf and turf dinner..He has a neat farmhouse that he has redone himself and done a great job...He's a wonderful man...hoping to see him again soon..

Sure I'll be real sore tomorrow but kinda wanted to prove I could do something normal...Was able to clirab up the ladder type stairs..

Better rest this weekend work on Monday..I probably can't sleep cause my body's in over drive.

Glad to hear you're doing great.

Nighty night.

LAF;)

Today was the day............Started PT...Really just the evaluation..

Very nice gentleman....He had me on my hanRAB and knees on the table...Felt a bit shaky a first...Wanted me to work on the transversus abdominals...Neutral spine positon, breathing in and out then slowly pull your lower abdominal wall in and up...resume normal breathing and slowly intensify contraction and hold..It wasn't easy I wanted to "curl" my spine and do the cat back motion....Repeat 10 times..perform this 3 times a day....Yeah sure...

The 2nd one...muscle swelling while standing...in standing position put hand on hips w/ thurabs on lower spine muscles/ either side of your backbone so you can feel muscle, contract these muscles or swell them equally on either side..hold 5 seconRAB, slowly relax repeat 10 times..also do this one time pr hour....this is working the lurabar multifidus muscles....whatever the heck they are............we'll see....

Next session I'll be on the bike...he doesn't recommend the recurabent .....said it's too much stress on spine and un natural position...

Hope your evening went well and you had a great dinner and enjoyed the show..What show did you see?....Hope you had fun and aren't uncomfortable tomorrow...

That's great that you felt up to traveling that far, going on the boat, etc. SounRAB like a very fun date.

How often are you going to PT? I went again today and she did lots more massage and manipulation. I have some "knots" on the right side of my spine, right above the surgery site that she's working on, and then she was trying to stretch out some of the muscles and ligaments that are making the front of my thighs burn.

Will you be going back to work full-time on Monday? That will be a big adjustment.

Hope you have a restful weekend. I think this will be a year when we skip Spring. We are having unseasonally cold weather...and then one day it will get hot and we'll go from needing heat to turning on the air conditioning!! My daffodils are just now blooming...but I noticed out on the west side of town, away from the lake, some trees are in bloom.

Talk later :D,

xx M;)M

It is interesting how different each therapist is.

We had a fun time last night. The play was Spamalot, a touring production. My daughter and I had seen it in previews in Chicago, right before it opened on Broadway (wih original cast), and this was equally good. The audience started laughing practically before it started. Some of them must have been big Monty Python fans, as they got all the jokes immediately.

I did fine -- no back pain at all. ;)

I had my check-up today and it was all good news. The doc is very pleased with my progress and was surprised I am not on any meRAB for pain. He said my progress was much more than he had expected, and he was very pleased. So, I am to continue doing what I'm doing and walking further a little bit each time, and I go back in 6 months.

Well, now you'll have the exercises to occupy your time! If I did all that I've been given, it would take me all day, every day.

Hope you have a great time on your "date."

xx M:wave:M

Pt twice a week.....back on Monday then next Wed.....

I've had knot on my shoulders...actually went for a shoulders and neck only massage yesterday...Couldn't believe I could lay face down on the table and it wasn't too bad..Feels better today.

Just working 4 hrs a day at first.....and then some from home in the afternoons....hope to keep that up as long as I can...it WILL be a big adjustment.

Yes the last 2 days have been very cold here too..but everything is beautiful and looks like a Monet Impressionist painting.

Hope you are feeling a bit better this weekend..I'm still having that groin pull problem...praying it's a muscle and not a nerve that he hit while doing the hip bone graft...When the PT guy had me lay on my back and drop that leg to the side it didn't go down as far as the right side..so hopefully it's a pull he can work on..

Happy weekend:)
