If i have a 440 rms amp for door speakers. If i only turn the amp up 25% Am i only drawing 110 rms from the cars electrical system??

The draw would be in amperage not watts and would be nominal. The voltage will fluctuate also, but only slightly.

If you mean the volume of the source to the amp then the amp is only pushing theoretically 110 watts RMS. The power consumption will be less than if you had it up all the way as well but it's not measured in watts RMS but rather amps.

The gain (or level) control on the amp isn't a volume control knob.

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp for correct power matching and to prevent clipping (damage by over powering).

Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.box.net/shared/uchv4dbk88

You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter, $15 from Radio$hack), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.

If you don't have Excel, use this link http://www.box.net/shared/nkkw1dhk4g
