HDbits,Good news ( or not depending on your point of view)

better to be safe but i still wonder why they felt the need to "unleash passions" like this, since they knew that trade and sell attempts would inevitably happen.
i guess hdbits staff must be quite sadistic.

i've been contemplating the same thing. they must foreseen the fall out and known from the get go that if they were not willing to go through with the open invites in this environment invites would never happen.

perhaps they are sadistic, or perhaps they were just trying to trump up publicity/prestige/ego for the site. perhaps in an attempt to stimulate donations from their current members.

HDBits' reaction of eleminating the idea of issuing invites was a good and bad thing. Good, cause the site will continue to be free of traders, bad cause many legitimate users who wanted to get into the site are now stranded. IMO hdbits should organise something about the invites for this chirstmas and give invites, to their most trusted users i.e based on user classes.

Don't know if you noticed but the upper userclasses of most trackers are populated to some extent by traders who have consciously buffered their accounts to maximize their value.:ermm:

Also if HDbits was as you so astutely put it " free of traders " then they wouldn't have had this problem to begin when.

I always laugh when i see this venom over someone trading an invite. Its a torrent site people. Your not trading your wife ,( although I think many people when they know look across them in bed would like a chance to swap out)or your kids. I am aware of how trading is frowned upon and I am lucky that a couple of friends have invited me into several good sites. If I had a friend who had an invite into a site I wanted and vice versa of course i would swap with them.

Now if I give him an invite and then a week late he gives me an invite back that is better then giving them at the same time ?

Many people I have met on a site like this or a torrent site are good people. Like many people did this week when I heard about hdbits opening up I pm'd a dozen or so regular people i chat with at least once a month and said if u get an extra invite can u hook me up. To me thats what being a good member of the torrent scene does. U help friends enjoy Movies,tv,games, and music.

If sites are worried about collectors then simply don't give out any invites unless you have been an active member for several months. People who sign up won't be able to buy invites like at some sites and if they don't bother to download or use there account regularily (at least every 2 weeks) prune there accounts ( I know some sites do this).

Don't some people remember 25 years ago when u bought a nintendo or a sega and you trading games with your buddies instead of buying the games from the store. I know I did this. Now advertising trades on ebay or even on here I can see having negative benefits to the tracker in terms of unwanted pub. I get that part, no site wants to be shut down. But hdbits is afraid of its own members. Are these the same members regularily downloading stuff and contributing to what is supposed to be a great forum.

I think this was a preplanned move to announce the day well ahead just to be able to cancel it later. THen they can say well we tried. If they really cared they wouldn't announce it. Once a month or 3-4 times a year they would simply open up invites for a few hours in a day. People for the most part would only have time to contact people they already know to give an invite out.

Not once did I condone selling. Selling I agree is wrong. I just feel that the attitude that some sites have about there members is unrealistic. U can't have 20,000 members in anything without 200-300 jerks. Do we cancel the New years Eve fireworks because of the dozen knuckleheads smoking up (must be members of SCC according to there recent forum thread) under the bleachers or do we let the 5000 people enjoy the show.

HDbits can keep there doors closed and one day like every other site they will close and be replaced.

Stepping off my soapbox, kicking my feet back, just opened a cold one and going to enjoy my 3 weeks of holidays now.

best of the season to all and lets remember no matter how frustrated some get at times we are still getting great stuff for free

anyhow, they KNEW it would happen... so why did they announce the opening of invites a week before ?
they could have opened invites for 1 or 2 days without advising any member before the opening, i guess traders and sellers wouldn't have had time to react.
Yah its pretty lame for them to act like they didn't see this coming. Obviously the members that were doing this before are still there.

I think they are a bunch of whiny faggots who can't deal with people selling invites like the staff at the rest of the sites do. So they make matters worse by cutting off the supply for over a year. How fucking brilliant is that?

Why not just have a application process if worried about who gets in, the staff could check if they were members before, if they can be trusted to use and keep the account? Or do they want to stay closed and keep the same member base as is?
Some people do want the site for the simple reason that invites are hard to obtain , others want a good HD source. I am not sure how this and other dedicated hd sites compare to each other content wise.
Some members here did not have the HD space(HDTV etc) to be able to be a good member of the site if invited (as mentioned in this thread).

a huge chunk of them are traders and sellers tho it will always be that way on "high level" trackers :whistling
Nah I disagree with that. Swapping with a buddy that you would just the same give it to for free, imo is not trading. Coming on a board like this and offering your invite for a trade to people you dont know is different. And I think is a small percentage of people that are doing that.

Blaming traders wont do shit..
if HDBits staffers did, at any point of time, rule out the possibility of traders cashing in.. then they certainly expected way too much outta certain people..
There is a whole world of difference between the *real* and *ideal* world..about time they accept that.

//Peace

Or perhaps they hoped that faggots on this site and others that have traders and sellers wouldn't try anything stupid. If the same stuff happened again they would just simply cancel. It was up to the users to decide if they wanted invites open or not and they failed miserably

This is brilliant.

They closed invites due to sellers and traders.

With only one day of open invites, a very small window of opportunity, people will be scrambling to trade and sell in order to get an invite.

Thus greatly increasing the percentage of traders and sellers who get in. How brilliant.

Why don't they just open for a longer period or not at all?
