My teen daughter has seasonal allergies and spenRAB a couple of months each spring on Zyrtek. It's not working this year. Been to the doc three times in 2 weeks ... yesterday the doc (not her usual one) said to switch from Zyrtek to prescription flonase ...

BUT ... that will take a few days to get up to speed. Meanwhile, poor kid is suffering w/ runny nose and miserable cough that is interfering w/ sleep. As in we were both up most of the night with her cough and she is trying to sleep sitting up.

Cough remedies, steam and vapor rub aren't helping. Is there anything I can give "on top of" the flonase to help her catch up on sleep? Doc's not opened and I'm waiting a call back from a pharmacist friend. Our usual pharmacist at a small shop that is closed for the day now and after a few mishaps, I don't trust the 'big chain' pharmacist near my home.

I can tell you of something I started about 4 months ago, and it really seems to help me with my seasonal allergies. A friend told me start taking cinnamon and honey each day prior to the start of allergy season. I did a Google search on the "benefits of cinnamon and honey", and I was truly surprised of all their listed benefits.

Knowing that cinnamon and honey are indeed two natural substances, I figured it was worth the try. I must admit, this time of the year usually the pollen in the air really gets to me.

I really can't say why, but so far, this year, I'm not having a problem. Is the mixture of cinnamon and raw honey helping me, not sure but I do know it sure isn't a detriment.

Wishing you the best of health............

Did she try 2 zytec a day - 12 hours apart? My allergist allows me to do that when I have a spell and it seems to work in a day or so.

Honestly, that doesn't make a lot of sense as the two are completely different medications. Zyrtec is an antihistamine (that helps suppress the body's immune reaction to allergens) while Flonase is an anti-inflammatory (that will help reduce her congestion and stuffiness but won't do anything to help manage the allergic reaction).

She should probably take both Zyrtec and Flonase until she gets things under control.
