Have you received a new Smart Card from Bell?

Could very well be the case. Many customers were getting them by mistake in the past, but most had this "issue" cleared up many months ago.

None of my none of my 5 box's use cards.. Their all cardless. It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months. Will the new cards be mailed with my bill? or is it a stand alone envelope from bell? BTW i cant see the card swap channel on any of my units, but with the wonders of the internet I've already seen the new card swap video on youtube.

If you haven't received a smartcard yet, don't worry.

It's going to take time to get cards out to customers. There is no discernable pattern on how cards are shipped out. (i.e. not by area.)

I would say that if you receive an automated phone call reminding you to swap your cards as soon as possible, then you should have received your cards.

I will be on the forum trying to answer your questions everyday so please feel free to ask them in this thread or feel free to PM me. I'm happy to help.

Cheers,

It looks like everyone who received a smart card recently owns a 6100 or 9200 HDTV receiver. I expect they should be able to switch the HDTV channels to nagra3 within a few weeks.

The "cardless" 6100's and 9200's that have cards are refurbs, and have cards because they have an onboard DishNetwork chip
They were purchased when Dish swapped out MPEG2 receivers and moved to MPEG4, just like Bell is doing now
I think it sounds better when it is said that the onboard chip failed, instead of saying that the receivers were on another satellite system, but are now obsolete for HD on that provider
That would get customers nervous, so hence the "on board chip has failed" story, or at least thats what I think happened

It all started (for BeV and Dish) around 1997; here is a reprint from Wall Street Journal. http://gbop.nm.ru/bo02.htm

This guy, Christopher Tarnovsky, is now in court: sued by Kudelski for breaking Nagravision.
Here is the interview he gave about a month ago http://it.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=504994&threshold=4&commentsort=0&mode=thread&cid=22919844
The last paragraph (manual translation from French) reads

I was a Bev sub during the first swap. I think I had three receivers at the time. Total swap time was about five minutes including phone call etc.

I think its a small price to pay for efforts to eradicate piracy.

thanks for the quick response Mr G. Thinking back on it, it does seem kind of obvious now as I assume that these receivers can only dial out for PPV and such (I'm guessing) and aren't in the habit of accepting random phone calls from strangers.......man I miss cable.

They are rom240's, the 9242 and 6151 have internal cam with a rom240 chip.
The rev is irrelavant at this point.

I can't possibly see how the 2 are related. Crypto and infrastrusture shouldn't cross paths in the code.

No cards for me yet...2 x 9200, 1 X 6100.

It's a little baffling how slow and staggered this swap seems to be.

My 9200 still didn't have my programming as of this morning! Had to call in and have Tech confirm my card and then send authentication signal again. Was working within 10 mins from then.

No one knows yet, but it will not be untill after all the new smartcards are shipped out. Some time later this year I presume.

Funny we need a new card as Bell find themselves in trouble with piracy and loansharking.

Received my package yesterday from Bell with replacement cards for my two 3100's and my 6100. Don't think the 6100 currently has a card ?

Hopefully you won't have to buy a new receiver...
It can be frustrating dealing with overseas CSR's
Good luck
