Has this been the best summer of films ever?

So far this summer I've seen:

Pirates of the Carribean
Harry Potter
Die Hard
Transformers
Oceans 13

Add to that list films I missed such as Shrek, Spider Man, Fantastic Four, Simpsons, ans still to come, Bourne...

I would say this summer has been the busiest blockbuster season for a long time.

Of the films I've seen, only Die Hard dissappointed (I actually walked out).

But has the quality been up there with the quantity? Is a good summer made by just one 'blow you away' film, or do you need your weekly fix to make it a great summer of film going?

[Edit] I'd just like to say the stuff I'm reporting is my understanding as taken from reading critical reviews and audience responses on imdb and other website etc.

Pirates, Spiderman, and Shrek have been generally held to be disappoinments.

Potter, Transformers, Ocean's 13 and The Simpsons are generally held to have been the best films, although they have quite a few naysayers.

Fantastic Four is thought of as being pants.

Die Hard was silly but surprisingly enteraining (no one expected it to be good, their expectations were low, but it ended up being decent).

The only movie that's been released that has any hope of becoming a classic film is The Bourne Ultimatum, I haven't seen it but haven't heard a bad thing about it. It's already felt to be the best blockbuster this summer.

So Bourne, Potter, Transformers, Ocean's 13, The Simpsons and Die Hard are the winners this year (in terms of percieved quality, not necessarily BO).

Pirates, Spiderman, Fantastic Four and Shrek have been let downs.

6 positive, 4 negative, What are we thinking of these stats? I actually think this is probably the best summer ever actually in terms of quality as although there have been disappointments and very few truly brilliant movies there haven't been any that are truly bad either. (No 'Avengers' or 'Batman and Robin' this summer).

From a purely personal point of view, I think this summer has been pretty much rubbish films-wise. But then again, I don't really do blockbusters - out of the list in OP, I've seen POTC and Harry Potter and found both watchable but nothing special. I've really struggled to find anything I wanted to see this summer and can only barely remember what I have seen.

Not sure about 'ever', but it has been really good. I don't often get an urge to go to the cinema (usually go once or twice a year) but I've been six times in the last couple of months alone.

My favourites have been The Simpsons (mainly for the geeky joy of seeing it up there on the big screen) and Hairspray; I didn't expect all that much but thoroughly enjoyed it.

Although the blockbuster season is more or less over now (I think? I always considered July to be the month all the 'big' films came out), there's at least two films being released in September that I'll see too. And I've not even seen Order of the Phoenix yet, better hurry.

yes this summer feels like its had a lot of big blockbusters this year more than anyother for some reason.

and SIMPSONS MOVIE was just the best film this sumer and also the best comedy film iv ever seen i never laughed so much at the cinema i went to see it twice

Shrek 3. Puss In Boots is always my favourite.
The Painted Veil. This was fantastic and the scenery was majestic.
Hairspray. This was like watching a new film. I prefered the old version.

IMO; Hairspray tops the bill for best film of the year, not just summer!

Although respectable commendations go to Harry Potter, Simpsons and Spiderman.

The best summer blockbusters this year are Bourne Ultimtum and Transformers as both were amazing!
I have to say that next summer is looking very good with Indiana Jones 4, Batman: The Dark Knight, Mummy 3, Iron Man, Prince Caspian, Speed Racer, Hellboy 2 and Hulk 2. Its looking a lot better than this year already!

the simpsons movie was ok but bit of a letdown.
die hard 4 was incredible didnt have much expectations and it super seeded them by miles.
shrek 3 was poor.
havent seen transformers yet.
spiderman 3 was ok nothing special as pirates 3.
really want to see the bourne ultimatium.
so in answer to the question yes this has been the best summer ever for movies

POTC was good, but I felt it was too long.
Harry Potter was brilliant.
Shrek 3 was disappointing but still good.
Simpsons was excellent.
Haven't seen Hairspray but I really want to.

My favourite film this summer has been Harry Potter.
