Harshest Movie Ending

Blair Witch made me cry. I thought it was real and everyone said it was. I was ... 8 i think when it came out. My cousin forced me to watch it

the butterfly effect

romeo and juliet  (I cannot actually watch that film anymore cos I cry everytime even though I know whats going to happen!)

Yes, La Cabina does have a dark ending. I've been waiting for it to return back on the screen since I last saw it in the eighties, but to no avail. To any TV executives out there: please add this great short film to the schedule.

Like a previous poster, I would also say "Dancer in the Dark". That ending just made me so angry! (angry 'cos of the injustice of it all, not a criticm of the film, which is very good).
Another absolute b@$***d of an ending would be (the original version of) Dark Water.
And of course, as many people have already suggested, "Night of the Living Dead" has the classic harsh ending.

Its not a film but Twin Peaks..the ending always had me scratching my head

As for films, I would agree with maybe The Green Mile or perhaps Menace II Society

it doesn't get much better than that.

the denoument in the blair witch project was pretty chilling i thought.

and midnight cowboy was pretty bleak.

:o Really? Thats not embarrasing. :o It was just me and my little sister that watched it. Come to think of it, I may have told her it was real tryin to scare her, and then started to believe it myself. :o

They kinda do... it's explained they can't change the past only affect the future - a cure will help survivors in the future. Then, the bloke gets on the plane and who's sitting next to him? That female scientist from the future. Who hints she's in "insurance". Therefore it's asumed she got the cure she needed from him. Unfortunately, Brucey was always destined to die (although, his life is NOT a loop, as most people believe).

Also, for me The Grudge. Nothing really happens, it just goes on and on... it's a bit depressing because you feel nothing was achieved... the evil just goes on and on, and you just saw a bunch of people getting killed. I guess that's obviously intended though.

House of Sand and Fog - considering Requiem for a Dream has been mentioned, one can probably assume Jennifer Connelly likes depressing endings to her movies ...

It is 'Fail Safe' - if you get it, you will be disappointed.

It's totally unbelievable, a US President with a warped 'conscience'?

I don't know which bit requires the greater suspension of disbelief, the fact that he has a conscience, or the fact that you could possibly conceive of this course of action.

You could believe the Americans scoring such a spectacular 'own-goal', but only by accident - not on purpose!

Walter Matthau is good in it, but that guy who was in 'Dallas' (was it RJ or something?) just can't escape his future casting!
