Harry Potter

It missed out a heck of a lot from the book but I suppose this was to be expected. I personally thought the book was a far superior experience. I can't believe they left out Hagrid's sacking, that would have been a really great scene...and only one appearance by Kreacher? That's a crime in itself. Ok, the list could go on for ages so I'm gonna stop myself lol
 
I'd not read the book, and had no issues with following it. The only bit I asked my g/f (who had read them) was about the archway/Sirus bit. Apparently that's all just as vague and underwhelming in the book - so I guess nothing is lost in translation there.
 
Saw it last night. Thought it was very good, but not as good as the book - no quidditch! They did well to compress it into 2 hours though.
 
I saw it last night and it wasn't quite how i imagined it when i read the books but i thought it was a really good movie.

I went with people who hadn't read the book and it made sense to them.

I felt sorry for some of the characters while watching it after finding out what happens to them in the last book!
 
career advice chapter is missing from the film and tha when snape teaches him occlumency he tells malfoy potter is doing remedial potions. missed out dont forget the books not just about voldemort its life at hogwarts.

firenze also taking over from prof trewlaney also missed out.

sure some of it could have been left in.
 
Michael Gambon has been playing the role since Prisoner of Azkaban. :)


I saw the film last night and thought it was excellent. I don't understand why people criticise the film because it cut things from the book - it is IMPOSSIBLE to put everything from a novel into a film. You need to learn to accept that the film is a different media for Harry Potter - you still have the book!

I thought they did really well. They need to tell the story and the subplots to that need to go - for timing, pacing etc. And there are SO many characters in the world of HP that they are always going to be competing for screen-time. That they are there at all (with consistency in the casting) makes all the difference in my opinion. Makes the world come alive.
 
I have to admit there is a lot missing from the film, some people will be disappointed at certain parts like I was, there has been some key information missed out from the book.

However the set sequences are amazing, the final 20 mins is nothing short of spectacular and I dare say the 2 hours is worth it for that alone. I am off to see it again tomoro morning.

The twins exit was good wasn't it? It was what I was looking forward to the most so was very pleased, and had a chuckle as the fire dragon head thing chased her down the main hall, teehee.
And the kitten plates too!! I think my Gran would love one of those... must enquire with the props dept as to where they got them from :p
I loved those bits and IMO made the film, especially Snape in the mirror, CGI'd into the sequence from Philosopher's Stone. Brilliant.
 
I can see the movie version of Deathly Hollows being much different. I can see Dobby's sequence not being in it at all - or even the whole Malfoy's mansion bit - as Doddy has not been included in all the other movies, but was in the books (aprt from number 2 of course). The whole sequence at the start with the Broom stick battle will be excellent - if they pull it off right
 
I just saw it again tonight and I enjoyed it far better the second time round. It didn't seem as choppy. I also got to notice little details in the background that they've added in from the book. Like the Patil twins crying and looking upset in the background while Trewlany's being sacked!!
 
As a stand alone film, I loved it. As a comparison with the book it felt rushed especially
Sirius' death
and there was quite a lot left out. I think it could easily have been 3 hrs what with the book being over 700 pages.

The 3rd one is still my favourite film too, I might watch it again in a bit :D

P.S Daniel Radcliffe is so short and skinny compared to Dudders, Neville and Ron, bless him! They tower over him! :D oh and I miss Richard Harris too, much I like Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, Richard Harris is and always be Dumbledore for me :(
