Went to see it yesterday afternoon....

Best bits?

So many really.

I loved the Luna character in the book, and the actress brought her to life.

Imelda Staunton was amazing - you really hated Prof Umbridge.

A surprise was Helena B-C as Bellatrix LeStrange - didn't think it would work - check out her awesome voice in the prophecy room - spine tingling!

Thought Sirius' death scene was well done - and very moving

As expected, CGI was up to the mark, as were the sets, especially Ministry of Magic.

Thought Daniel's acting was strong - showed real maturity IMHO.

Bits not keen on:

Final scenes a bit rushed - perhaps the film could have been 1/2 an hour longer. Dumbledore's office scene should have been put it, especially for those viewers who hadn't read the book first.

All in all, my favourite of the series so far, and we have still got the final book to look forward to soon!
 
it just seemed to go nowhere - whole chunks seemed to be missing

the effects - the centaurs and the giant - were atrocious

the acting was all over the place as usual, with the weasley twins being more annoying than usual

by far the weakest of the 5 films
 
It was a very good film - although I agree, not as good as Prison of Azkaban which I still think is the best film adaptation of the series so far. I loved the use of flashbacks and scenes from previous films. It moved a good, quick pace. The book is one of those books that gives us a lot of information and so I think they did a good job with the way they edited some of the scenes. A good addition to the film was the way they edited certain events into one sequence - something which I don't think has been done before. It makes events move quicker - I'm not explaining it very well but an example was when Umbridge (played absolutely fantastically by Imelda Staunton who could do no wrong in my eyes) was inspecting the different classes - in the book it's obviously done in a linear fashion whereas in the film they chopped it all up together to make one sequence which I think was something we haven't really seen in previous films.

Another noticeable difference was the use of the Daily Prophet to describe events which perhaps couldn't be focused on for too long - I quite liked that.

There was once again a lot of humour in this film which I love - especially Ron who I think is written brilliantly in the films and he comes out with some brilliant lines. The audience were laughing a lot. The trio were all brilliant - Radcliffe was possible at his best in this film and he's really grown as an actor, although I still think he manages to be outshone by bother Rupert and Emma despite them not having as much screen time.

There was a real lack of Sirius which is shocking seeing as he enRAB up dying at the end! Lupin also said next to nothing which I found odd. He was just there.

I think though, that for the longest book, they did a fine job of including a lot of stuff. The cut the bits that were unnecessary and it made for a more enjoyable film. The final battle between Dumbledore and Vodlemort was visually sunning, absolutely stunning. The effects were amazing in this film.

Overall I enjoyed it. Not as good as the third, but still one of the best.
 
Have never read any of the books.

Saw the movie on Saturday and wow i was hooked right from the beginning right up till the end.

It had parts that made you laugh, bits that made you jump and some parts in a way that could have made you weep slightly.

How long for the Half Blood Prince movie any ideas?

Was so shocked as to how grown up they all are, i have seen them in the news etc but so different when on movie screen.

Can't agree. If one has to reduce 600 bloated pages to a tight two hours, I think they managed quite the feat. I also thought the acting was significantly more competent than previous films (especially Staunton, and Radcliff), and the atmosphere and direction (loved the kinetic camerawork and sharp cuts at the beginning) were a bold step in the right direction. I do, however, agree with you about the terrible CGI giant where and actor would have been so much more effective. But as someone who has only truly enjoyed two HP movies (this being the second - I thought the first two were just terrible, and the third was patchy), I guess I'm not on the same page as you when it comes to expectations.
 
I really enjoyed the style of the film - and I believe David Yates is ear marked to direct the next one as well.

And ive read the responses on this forum re: comparing it to the book - damn right! Should not compare it to the book. The movie should always be different. I thought the first movie kept far to "close" to the book - even the dialog was word perfect (from what I can gather) - but the 3rd and 4th movie took a different approach - and that
 
Finally seen this!
I liked it, but my brother didn't. Feels they left out too much, although I think that was inevitable really.

I think the casting was brilliant, couldn't find a more perfect Bellatrix if you tried! I didn't like this book, and Luna really annoyed me in it, but I liked her in the film...we even have the same shoes!! lol

Have to say though, Hermione is getting more and more annoying with each film.
 
I saw it last week and I really enjoyed it. The action and characterisation was fantastic, especially Umbridge and Luna Lovegood.

However, I think they could have added in some more stuff in the scenes at the department of mysteries. They ignored the spinning platform with all the doors, the mysterious brain room, Ginny breaking her ankle, Neville struggling to speak etc. But apart from that it was excellent
 
Yeah me too can't wait to see the end fight scene in 3D. I have seen Batman Begins and Superman Returns in IMAX and its amazing!

Well worth going if you live near an IMAX. I'm going to the IMAX in Birmingham. I hope its as good as the London one.
 
I was really undecided on what I thought of the film. I still am.

As I expected, there were chunks of it missed/replaced.. Cho made out to be the one who told when it was her friend, no mention of prefects, fireworks in the OWL exam (Harry collapsed in the exam, the fireworks didnt happen there), the dementors scene was different to what I imagined too. Umbridge had the whole DA doing lines which etched into there hanRAB.. where was THAT in the book? Why put things in that just didn't happen and not include things that did? They could have easily mentioned Ron & Hermione getting prefects rather than having the whole DA doing lines for Umbridge.

However, the film did have its strong points. The ministry battle, although shorter than in the book, was excellent (Due to special effects). Sirius's death was very moving, with the silent scream from Harry... and they cast a PERFECT Bellatrix.. was SO impressed at her.

It was an alright film, got much better towarRAB the end, but you cant help but compare it to the books, if you've read them. Book 5 was always going to be difficult as its so long (700 or so pages). I preferred the Goblet of Fire film.
 
wonder what Jk rowling thought of the adaptation? they do cosult her so maybe what been elft otu is a lcue that it still possible to work out the ending.

why could phoenix not have been thrre hours long? and they could have left most of it in.

Agreed worked well umbridges inspection of classes.

they should have left in when they tried to stun hagrid and mcgonall being stupified.

and how could lthey leave out buckbeak?

draco didnt do much in this film did he?

they destroyed the room of requirement and its used in half blood prince?

also as dudley was missing in goblet of fire, he seemed to age much more than the cast in the other film.

also they left out arguement with percy weasley and percy weasley was in this film all beit blink abd you miss it.

its was also very incoherent how seamus doesnt believe harry then does..

I ownde ronce all the books out and the films filmed when they will attempt a remake of the books 10 years 20 years what do people think?
