Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: will be two films

Which worRAB are they? Many people think it is a thoroughly unnecessary move, made for cynical business reasons - but I don't think anyone has suggested the films will suck.

People just get to worked up about motives. We all know the Hollywood machine is about making loaRAB of dosh, but why let that get in the way of your enjoyment of films you love? So what i mean is, if people object so much then they shouldn't watch the films, but people will still go, they just like moaning about it before hand ;)

If any of the books needed to be a two parter it was Order of the Phoenix. As it is they cut enough and stuffed 800 odd pages into 2 and a half hours and as a result many of the interesting characters were simply reduced to a couple lines each and lots of the magic was missing.

Yes, I realized that just after I posted. Sorry! It just annoys me to no end when they do things like this, especially when there is no justification for it at all (except to make money, of course )
I could probably understand if the book was overflowing with pages of important content, or if there was some incredible cliffhanger to be found somewhere in the middle of it all...but there just isn't! For the most part they're just bloody camping for Christ sake!

I'm probably the only one then that thinks this is a good idea, i hate it when they cut things out of the films, i know they can't get everything in. I have been hoping that they would do 2 films for the last one!

I think it's a good idea because then they won't cut anything out of it.
I don't understand why some people on the internet are complaining. No one is forcing them to go and see the films if they don't want to

Books and film are obviously very different mediums and I think up until now they've done a pretty good job of making these films and keeping to the essence of the story even though they obviously can't be completely true to the source.

This just seems like a way to ring the cash cow more.

DH really doesn't need two films as there's a lot that can be cut without losing anything from the main story arc. Do we really need an hour's worth of them camping, failing and generally being useless when they could have covered that time and show how long they were out there for in a montage?

My car has a slight squeak. If I mention that minor annoyance, would the logical reaction be "Don't drive it then"? Seriously, how can people possibly make the jump from "It's an unnecessarily decision made for the wrong reasons" to "Don't go see it"? If I only went to see films which I deem to me likely to be flawless, my cineworld card would never leave my wallet.

i'm fine with this plan, just wish they'd ditch David Yates, he's been the blandest of all the HP directors, such a shame when Newell and Cuaron both expressed keen interest in returning to helm the final story!

I think it will work - it's just a shame they didn't try it with "Order Of The Phoenix"... RAB are now carrying a report: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/a91457/deathly-hallows-split-into-two-films.html

Daniel Radcliffe has rightly pointed out that while the earlier books had removable sub plots, the fnal installment is one, long dramatic adventure with little that could be cut.

I think the two-parter will be a fitting finale to the series...

I think it's a good idea too. I also agree that Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix should have been split because i think some quite important sub-plots have been lost from these two.

I think I'll have to disagree with the majority on many counts in this thread.

Firstly, although I agree that Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix should have been split up, because they were awful adaptations with awful directors (or maybe it was Michael Goldenberg's fault..). Now that they've decided to do this, I'm pretty pleased. I'm one of these fans that have to see every detail, and I annoy myself when I'm pointing out the things they've forgotton to add to screen. Heck, I think I'd only be satisfied if they acted out the book word for word, without the need for a screenplay.

So this pleases me a lot. I don't care about whether or not it is milking a cash cow or making millions for the industry. Whether or not they're selling it under the guise that they're "doing it for the fans" is good enough for me - I want as much of it as possible.

I completely disagree about the comments about Columbus as well. Claims that he is "childish" contradicts the fact that HP is childrens' fiction, so if they are childish, then I think they've hit upon its aim. I actually think Columbus was the best director, and the films have been getting progressively worse since Chamber of Secrets.. I felt the magic was captured perfectly in the Philosopher's Stone with a tight story. After the disasterous Goblet of Fire, and the alright OotP, I was unsure how I'd feel about HBP and DH, and now they've announced this.. I feel that it'll give DH a chance to appeal to the fans that have shunned the last two films which makes me come to the conclusion that this is absolutely the best thing to do...

Slightly OT to this thread but if there's one thing I never understood about Ms Rowling is how she could spend sooo much time with the grief etc. surrounding Dobby when the humans in her books who pop their clogs just die and then are largely forgotten about. I'm really referring especially to all the deaths in DH.

I dunno I just think it's odd.

Oddly, I think he's by far the best they've had. I found Columbus workmanlike and uninspiring. Newell was good, and Cuaron nothing more than adequate.

Guess it's all a taste thing.

Oh come on! Rob you blind?!?!! As far as I'm aware, no-one has stuck a gun against your head and told you that you're forced to pay to see these two movies. Vote with your feet if you feel that strongly about it. It's easy.
