On July 27, 1940, "A Wild Hare" directed by Tex Avery was shown in theaters. In it, a rabbit greets an unexpected Elmer Fudd with a "Eh, what's up doc?"
Audiences fell in love with the rabbit instantly and still do today.

Thank you Bugs for making us laugh. Have a wonderful birthday.

Where would we be without this guy? Happy birthday, Bugs, and all history you inspired.

I hope, someday, somebody gives you an anniversary special that isn't just a bunch of celebrities pretending to be interested in you.

"Would you like to shoot me now or wait until we get home?"

B. Bunny, Rabbit Seasoning (1952)

Well, at least WB's pretending to care about putting him and the LT gang on TV (the new series).

Bricka Bracka Fire Cracka Siss Boom Bah!

Bugs Bunny, Bugs Bunny, Rah, Rah, Rah!

Happy birthday, you Scwewy Wabbit! :bugs1: Batman, and Scooby-Doo may be more popular right now, but a world without Bugs Bunny would be a very scary place. (Even scarier than Sinbad getting a new TV show.) :p

Happy Birthday to Bugs Bunny, one of the most important characters in animation history! 70 years is a long time, and Bugs Bunny deserves special treatment such as a marathon on Cartoon Network or Boomarang, too bad they don't think the same way I do.

Anyhow, what a celebration, 70 years and Bugs is still alive and kicking with The Looney Tunes show on the horizon, it's good to see that some legends never die.

Yup, Happy 70th Birthday to one of the greatest and most influential cartoons characters in history.

Check out the tribute on the corner images above. Can you recognize all 20 Bugs Bunny cartoons up there?

From memory...

"Rabbit Seasoning"
"The Rabbit of Seville"
"Bowery Bugs"
"Rabbit's Feat"
"Falling Hare"
"A Wild Hare"
"Long-Haired Hare"
"Beanstalk Bunny"
"The Unruly Hare"
"Rabbit Hood"
"The Heckling Hare"
"Bugs Bunny Rides Again"
"The Big Snooze"
"Blooper Bunny"
"Devil May Hare"
"Super Rabbit"
"Ballot Box Bunny"
"What's Opera Doc?"

That pic with the bullet holes in Bugs's carrot... I'm drawing a blank, but I believe it's "Bugs and Thugs". Or it might be from a Yosemite Sam short. I forget.

I'll probably edit this post once I see more.

Happy 70th, Bugs! I hope there's many more to come :D

I wonder if his birthday will be reported on any news station? I remember Mickey Mouse got one when he turned 80 back in 2008.

I'm so glad to see Bugs getting the love he deserves. He may not get as much attention as Mickey Mouse or Spongebob, but he's still beloved.

I'm going to watch "A Wild Hare" today in his honor and "Rabbit of Seville" because that's my favorite. :D

Happy Birthday Bugs, may you eat as many carrots today as you want. :bugs1:

Great to see he's lasted this long. I remember watching Looney Toons (or is it Loney Tunes?) as a kid and the marathon on Cartoon Network a while back.

Just added a post to my blog this afternoon centered around Bugs Bunny and the characters 70th birthday (link in sig), I wanted to do something special for Bugs since he has brought me so much joy as a kid and as an adult. Oddly enough it does not seem like the media is covering the characters birthday at all, I've yet to hear anyone mention it on television or on the radio, I guess it's not such a big deal to the general public as it is to the animation fans around the world. I find that to be a bummer, I was hoping for a little more fanfare around such a classic creation but I guess since it's not SpongeBob or Family Guy nobody seems to care.

Overall my favorite Bugs cartoon was "Rabbit Fire", and the reason why I like this is the confusion between rabbit season and duck season.

Daffy Duck: Wabbit Season
Bugs Bunny: Duck Season
Daffy: Wabbit Season
Bugs: Wabbit Season
Daffy: Duck Season, FIRE!

Elmer shoots his gun and Daffy's bill was on the back of his head.

To qutoe one of his longtime rivals, "Happy boithday, you screwy wabbit!"

Happy Birthday Bugs!!! Even if Cartoon Network and Boomerang are too ignorant to recognize greatness by making Looney Tunes a permanent staple on their stations, I got nothin but love for you and you'll always be the greatest cartoon character of all time in my opinion.

Happy birthday to one of the most well known and loved cartoon character. I remember enjoying the Bugs Bunny cartoons as I watched them on Cartoon Network and even Nick when I was little. Those were fun times and I still enjoyed them when Cartoon Network had Looney Tunes marathons. Happy 70th birthday, Bugs Bunny and I hope that you and all of the other Looney Tunes characters can make a new generation of kids happy with the old shorts and the new series.

How sad to think that today's kids probably have little-to-no idea of who Bugs Bunny is. When Bugs celebrated his 50th birthday in 1990, it was big pop culture news for all age groups, but now, Bugs is almost forgotten by kids.
