How about this? If you don't like Halo, then don't watch its anime, and just ignore it. I hear lots of people bash the game because of its "rabid" fanbase, but I have yet to see such rabid fans, since all I ever see on the net is people bashing it. I for one at least like the first game for taking direct influences from classic sci-fi films like Alien and Predator in its story line (I remeraber that being brought up in an interview in a magazine about Corabat Evolved, if I remeraber), and featuring generally fun shooting corabat for its time. At any rate, could you give me an example of any forum besides a Halo specific one that contains these rabid-fans which you talk about? I've definitely never seen someone in real life who likes the game "that" much, and I have honestly encountered way more people on the net who bash the game rather than praise it. The only way I see it as being overrated is that it gets ridiculously high scores from critics, which it really doesn't deserve, and also sells a ton of copies, but more than half of those are from casual gamers who just know its a big gaming title and who aren't really much of gamers in the first place and who don't go online that much, anyways.
What I can't stand is when people just say "why should nice things happen to this game franchise, because I don't like it, and since I don't like it and think its overrated, it doesn't deserve to have what its getting." Honestly, I'm not that big on Halo, myself, but hey, if its getting an anime, then I might as well check it out, because I'm not so caught up in getting upset because its more popular than some other better series. In my book, its still an adequate and entertaining shooter, and I've always personally enjoyed its interesting (although admittedly very flawed) story line.
At any rate, I don't know if an anime would fit Halo all that well, but I'm game to try something new. I just don't like when people start questioning why a series should get some sort of recognition in some way (in this case an anime adaptation), just because they don't like it being overrated and don't think that it deserves any attention.
And for the record, I think lots of things are overrated, including insanely popular games like Call of Duty 4 and a couple of GTA games, along with a ton of other titles, but I wouldn't be complaining if any of them got something like a live-action movie adaptation or something else pretty big going for them, because I'd at least take into consideration that just because I don't like a particular series doesn't mean that its at all truly bad, and that its just something to make the fans of that series hapy. So, I'd just ignore that news which wouldn't interest me, but I wouldn't try to forcefully say that it shouldn't get some sort of fan-service just because I'm not interested in it (and in this case its just a series of anime adaptations).
Also, in all honesty, there are a lot of game series that I like better than Halo, but I tend to think positively, and I'm still open-minded enough to give a Halo-based anime a chance.
