Halo Anime: It's Real

How about this? If you don't like Halo, then don't watch its anime, and just ignore it. I hear lots of people bash the game because of its "rabid" fanbase, but I have yet to see such rabid fans, since all I ever see on the net is people bashing it. I for one at least like the first game for taking direct influences from classic sci-fi films like Alien and Predator in its story line (I remeraber that being brought up in an interview in a magazine about Corabat Evolved, if I remeraber), and featuring generally fun shooting corabat for its time. At any rate, could you give me an example of any forum besides a Halo specific one that contains these rabid-fans which you talk about? I've definitely never seen someone in real life who likes the game "that" much, and I have honestly encountered way more people on the net who bash the game rather than praise it. The only way I see it as being overrated is that it gets ridiculously high scores from critics, which it really doesn't deserve, and also sells a ton of copies, but more than half of those are from casual gamers who just know its a big gaming title and who aren't really much of gamers in the first place and who don't go online that much, anyways.

What I can't stand is when people just say "why should nice things happen to this game franchise, because I don't like it, and since I don't like it and think its overrated, it doesn't deserve to have what its getting." Honestly, I'm not that big on Halo, myself, but hey, if its getting an anime, then I might as well check it out, because I'm not so caught up in getting upset because its more popular than some other better series. In my book, its still an adequate and entertaining shooter, and I've always personally enjoyed its interesting (although admittedly very flawed) story line.

At any rate, I don't know if an anime would fit Halo all that well, but I'm game to try something new. I just don't like when people start questioning why a series should get some sort of recognition in some way (in this case an anime adaptation), just because they don't like it being overrated and don't think that it deserves any attention.

And for the record, I think lots of things are overrated, including insanely popular games like Call of Duty 4 and a couple of GTA games, along with a ton of other titles, but I wouldn't be complaining if any of them got something like a live-action movie adaptation or something else pretty big going for them, because I'd at least take into consideration that just because I don't like a particular series doesn't mean that its at all truly bad, and that its just something to make the fans of that series hapy. So, I'd just ignore that news which wouldn't interest me, but I wouldn't try to forcefully say that it shouldn't get some sort of fan-service just because I'm not interested in it (and in this case its just a series of anime adaptations).

Also, in all honesty, there are a lot of game series that I like better than Halo, but I tend to think positively, and I'm still open-minded enough to give a Halo-based anime a chance.

The problem is that I don't have to go searching around forums to find the rabid fans. I see them all the time in real life. Just looking at the sales of each game should prove how overrated it is.

It's not that I don't think good things should happen to the franchise because I don't like it. I don't like it because of how everything has to be about this one franchise.

It's not that I don't think it deserves any attention. At this point that would be extremely impossible. It's that it's gotten so much attention, I really don't think it neeRAB so much more.

You use GTA as an example of being overrated. The entire GTA series is extremely popular, and many people hate it and/or don't think it deserves any popularity at all. I don't have a problem with it being so popular, as I do with Halo. Why? The GTA series started a completely innovative genre of gameplay and engine that even the newer games that try to copy it have often failed to fully copy. Every time a new GTA game comes out (I'm talking the main series, which is only 4 games), there is so much added to the gameplay from the previous one. The Halo series started a few years ago with a game that is essentially a standard shooter. It exploded in popularity, and this rabid fanbase I speak of started. This of course warranted a couple of sequels, but they each just tweaked some things from the already-pretty-straightforward first game and they sold even better. Now there are all these spin-oRAB, novels, and now anime. I just don't see why.

Your suggestion is to not watch the anime and ignore the news if I don't like Halo? Well, I'm sure I won't watch the anime, and I'm fine with ending this argument, since it seems obvious that it's not going anywhere. There was news announced, I had a thought about it, I posted that thought. That's how this forum works. That's why we have these talkbacks. Nothing more.

So, just because it seels a lot that proves that the people who buy it are all rabid fans, or that it has a lot of ranbid fans? Right, that's proper logic.

How is "everything" about this "1 franchise," exactly? That's a complete overstatement. There are TONS of other popular franchise that sell close to, just as much, or even more than Halo, including Mario, GTA, Metal Gear Solid, Call of Duty, God of War, and too many more to name. I definitely think that you're overreacting with that statement, especially since lots of other franchises get just as much special attention as Halo.

I think you're kind of missing the point, though. Giving it an anime isn't to give it more attention (especially since anime isn't even close to being as mainstream as regular American entertainment in America). Its really just a way to take a popular franchise and to have different directors and studios give their take on a little bit of its expanded Universe. In other worRAB, its mainly just something to please the fans, and no matter how popular a game is, I don't see any harm in trying to do things for its fans (like how earlier their were Halo graphic novels released, for example). But, if anything, it would be the other way around, I'd assume. And if it really was trying to get the series some more attention, it would probably to get the series more popular in Japan, just like how Marvel is trying to get some of their big franchises a bigger Japanese fanbase with anime for their iconic super heroes.

But you see, that's just your opinion. It may have been a unique concept, but its a gameplay style that gets really boring really fast, IMO. For one thing, I do not like sandbox gameplay, and I feel that GTA tries to focus on too many things at once that it truly fails to excel at any of its gameplay mechanics. For example, if I wanted to play a shooter, I'd play something that was specifically a shooter, instead of GTA. If I wanted to race, I'd play a racing game. GTA attempts to mix corabat and doing whatever you want in general into one game, but it just becomes a big mess of stuff that gets tiring for me quickly. And I disagree with you about them adding so much more with each new game. Sure, they add a lot of things, but most of the time they are completely useless, and don't enhance the experience for me at all. For example, in San Andreas, why would I want to ride a bike just because I had the option to, when I could ride a motercycle or car or helicopter? Or in GTA4, why would I care about playing pool when I could do so in real life, or why would I try to use a cover system when I could use a game that actually specializes in stuff like that like Gears of War?

Personally, I'd take a a more linear, yet more focused, and honestly more fun experience like playing Halo on campaign mode or a Ninja Gaiden game over GTA, anyday. Those games aren't as "innovative," but I certainly find them to be miles more fun.

At any rate, I must aplogize for getting way off-topic, here. My point, though, was that this is all based on opinion, and just because you don't get why a game you personally don't like gets so much attention doesn't just mean that you should start trying to trash something good happening for it, here.

Also, the point of a talkback is to talk about the subject stated in the beginning of the thread, which in this case is a Halo-based anime. On the otherh and, it seems that you have been a bit more focused on your hate for the series itself, rather than its upcoming anime adaptation (although, I'll admit that I've been just as much off-topic in responding to you).

Having said that, though, if you hate Halo, then that's just great. Nobody here is questioning your personal opinion on the games. However, this thread IS specifically about people sharing their thoughts on the upcoming Halo anime, and its really not fair to just come in here and question why a series you hate and find to be overrated should deserve something like this. If you have positive or negative thoughts on the anime, then please share them with us. But if all you intend to do here is just complain aobut you liking this series and not being happy with it getting even more attention with this anime, then are you really sure that you should be posting about it on this particular talkback thread?

Now, to avoid being a complete hypocrite, I'll drop this argument from this point onward, and just focus on staying on-topic:

Anyways, I'm not so sure if an anime is fitting for Halo, as I said before, but I'm still game to try it out. I just hope that these shorts will focus more on its expanded Universe, instead of trying to focus on the Master Chief's story line, because I don't think that would translate well into an anime. I do think that focusing on the mythology of the series would be a great direction for some of these anime shorts to go in. In particular, I would like to see some more Covenant-based stories, and maybe bits that go into the forerunners, and how exactly the came up with the idea of creating the Halos in the 1st place.

I wouldn't mind if at least 1 of the animation studios focused on some of the main characters, though. I'd personally like to see like to see one of these shorts be based off of Captain Keys. I personally found him to be the most interesting character revolving around the 1st game and its prequel works in the expanded Universe.

I'm pretty sure that you already know the answer to that question.

At any rate, that wall of text was just a reply to everything from your previous post, but I already said that I'm going to drop the argument, so hopefully you choose to do the same, as well.

But what if I don't?

Well I did say that I would drop it first, didn't I? So I wish I had some good things to say on this topic, but beyond "hey, I'll probably like it better than the games", not so much. Oh well, enjoy it if you like Halo. See you in a thread where we agree on things.

For anyone who interested, Spike TV is going to show 7 minutes clip of Halo LegenRAB tonight at midnight during the Halo ORABT special.

I saw the clips for the one short during the ORABT presentation, and I thought they were pretty good. My favorite one was where the Spartan took on a Brute with the Gravity Hammer, with his own fist and legs.

Final Fantasy is overrated, and got its own Anime.
That and SE continues to bleed ff7 as much as they can.

Never got to play HALO, but it seems like it has a good following and sales well. Not sure why people who never played it, hate it so much.

But must everything be done by a Japanese animation studio?

I gotta say that I am very interested in seeing this. I'm not really that much of a Halo fan these days... Trying to get used to playing the game after coming off of playing Gears 2 is kind of a chore, somewhat. (And I'm lazy and don't feel like adapting at the momemt XD.)

I didn't see the trailer on Spike, but I did see a 3 minute trailer on demand and as soon as I saw "Production I.G." I just knew I had to see it. They always give me the smooth animation (and great artwork at the same time.) that I always like to see in anime. (Even though I didn't really care for Blood+ I still believe the animation was great. Let's not even get me started on GitS and Moribito.)

This will probably be a must see for me since I've always wondered what it would be like in anime forum.

Hoping for a MGS anime adaption one day. And let it be Production IG that handles everything.

For the first time ever, Halo will be on PlayStation 3 on Feb. 9, 2010!

Minus fanboy bait jargon that is also used in the original Joystiq post, Halo LegenRAB will debut on DVD and Blu-ray Feb. 9 from Warner Bros.

Thoughts? Excited?

"Halo LegenRAB" Anthology DTV Coming February 9, 2010

The official press release from WHV about this. I expect we'll get the same marketing blitz we normally do with the DC DTVs, so keep your eyes on the News now that the project has been officially announced.

Has anyone seen The Babysitter yet? I just finished watching it and I gotta say I enjoyed it. The Duel sounRAB pretty sweet from what I've read about it.

I've been enjoying these Japanese adaptations of American properties so far. I know they got Iron man and Wolverine adaptations coming up but what other Japanese adaptions are coming up?

Frank O'Connor Talks "Halo LegenRAB" Direct-to-Video Anime

This is another one of those press release interviews that WHV does for the DC direct-to-video movies. Also includes 2 new screenshots from the upcoming anime.

Just remeraber the schedule. And the fact that the shorts will only be available on Saturday.

Two Saturdays ago was "The Duel" from Production I.G., with the behind-the-scenes featurette shown last Saturday. The short was directed by Hiroshi Yamazki and Mamoru Oshii served as creative supervisor. It was well-animated, applying watercolors, and told the story of an Arbiter defying Covenant religion. This Saturday is part one of "The Package" from Casio Entertainment, director Shinji Aramaki, and writer Dai Sato.

I just saw the newest one and now it's my new favorite. The CGI was really good, even on the humans but more so on the elites. Those guys looked fierce, I wanna see them fight the spartans next week (Cliffhangers).

One minor gripe I have is that it sounRAB like they used a different actor for Master Chief but I think it may be a younger Chief hence the difference in voice or maybe I'm hearing it wrong.
