Guys, a question about manners and cuteness?

This is for future reference:

Last night I was my friend JD. He walked me out of the school and we layed down on the grass and were talking for a really long time.. I was getting really cold, but I still wanted to talk to him, so I stood up and said, "Hang on, I'm going back inside to get my jacket." But he told me to sit back down and offered me his coat. I refused at first, saying that I could just get my jacket so HE wouldn't have to be cold, but he kept insisting saying that it still wasn't a coat and therefore wouldn't be warm enough. So... I gave in and sat back down. About fifteen minutes later he started getting really cold so I offered it back to him, but he refused, and instead huddled closer to me and stuck his arm through the sleeve. 2 minutes later we figure that it would be warmer inside, (duh :] ) SO we go inside and he tells me that I can just keep the coat on. So I do... but eventually I just put on my jacket and handed him the coat. I don't know really what to do in this situation...what's polite... so could you help me?

- Do you REALLY want to give a girl your coat, or are you hoping they'll say no?
- What if YOU get cold?
- When is a good time to give it back?
- Do you just like them wearing it or something?
- Just any other advice... I'm new to this whole guy thing. :]
*was with my friend JD.
