"Gurren Lagann" On Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday Block - Talkback *MAJOR SPOILERS*

I never heard of Gurran Lagann until I saw pictures of Yoko cosplayers. I wasn't sure what to make of it until I saw the first episode on the Scifi Channel. After that I was hooked. It is a brilliant poignant corabination of drama, romance, comedy and bad ass giant robots.

I am kicking myself for looking it up on wikipedia because I accidentally read some of the spoilers while reading the character bios.

This anime really stanRAB out apart from the rest and should be regarded to be in the same league as Macross.

I would even go as far as comparing it to Ronald Moore's Battlestar Galactica due to its strong characters and the willingess to break the rules, particuarly with Kamina.

I am looking forward to seeing the final episode.

While I could agree with most of the previous statement, because accomplishing the impossible and fighting against every established norm is quite certainly one of the show's main themes after all, Kamina's fate was predictable enough and entirely in accordance with the "rules" of anime or fiction in general.

The brash and powerful older brother, father or senpai must get out of the picture, one way or another, in order to fully allow the main character to move forward and assume his own responsibilities. It's a big part of growing up. Maybe the way in which it happened was a little surprising and, of course, it all worked out for the best, but the concept isn't really new or innovative.

Gurren Lagann is nevertheless a truly awesome show, which I will rewatch several times, this is simply a small observation.
