Guilty Pleasure Cartoons

I'm no sure if a thread about this has been made before, and if it has, one of the mods can feel free to merge them or close this. Anyways...

Are there any series that you enjoy watching, despite the fact that you "shouldn't" be for some reason? E.g., you're outside of said shows' target age demographic. it's not meant for your gender, what have you?

For me, a couple of shows come to mind:

I must admit that I kind of enjoyed Winx Club, despite it's being quite the "girl show", what with the main characters being fairies, the emphasis on boyfriends and dances and balls and so forth. And the thing is, I generally don't go for overtly girly shows like Winx Club. perhaps it was the emphasis on magic that attracted me to it initially. Now I can watch it for a half hour and not complain about it.

Also, a few weeks ago, I started watching 3-2-1- Penguins on Qubo. I sat through 1 episode out curiosity, and I've been watching it ever since. Yeah, I know that it's an E/I show on Qubo, and that it's made by the creators of VeggieTales and all that, but this is one of the rare instances where I like pretty much all of the characters in the main cast. The Penguin characters are amusing, and the 2 kids Jason and Michelle are super cute without being overtly cloying with it. Sure, the preachy morals are there, but they aren't too much of a distraction from the humor and storylines, so they're at least bearable in this case.

There, I've admitted some of my guilty pleasure shows. Would anyone else like to share?

-Yu-Gi-Oh! & spin-offs (they're 'dorky' shows)
-Totally Spies (so cheesy, so girly, yet I liked it)
-Sailor Moon (same as above)
-Go Diego Go! ('cause I watched it when I was 12)

I remember when I was young people said PPG was a girls show but I still liked it. Later I noticed the graphic violence more and learned it was originally titled the Whoopass Girls and needless to say I became proud to have watched it.
Also I like a few kids shows to this day if for nothing more than nostalgia. If there's nothing else on I may watch some Sesame Street or Blues Clues and remember the good times.

Well I liked the Nelvana Care Bears a bit, though mostly because of the villains. No Heart was such an awesome badie, and Beastly was hillarous. I also liked the tv specials and the DIC series, because of the villain Professor Coldheart, while a little more comedic than No Heart, was hillarous and awesomely evil. So really I am not a fan of the Care Bears, but a fan of their enemies, so that makes it okay? At least that is what I tell myself.

But other than that, yeah I am with you when it comes to show for girls. I just love a good girls oriented action show.

Some of those include Winx Club, Pretty Cure, and Jem. If you don't mind I will unolateral give my reasons as they are similar. All of those shows had action and adventure that equal any boys shows, some of them like Sailor Moon had some really dark story lines as well (Winx Club had to be edited by 4 Kids for its content, which is why I love the Rai dub), not to mention female characters are just as fun as male characters. I like that female characters are more open to express their feelings unlike most male characters who try to act all macho and hide their feelings. It is a nice change of pace from show with male heros and villians. And I too love shows with magical elements which is another reason I love Winx Club. Though I wouldn't put Sailor Moon in the category of guilty plessure, as it had a large male fan base and is a iconic manga / anime.

I'll break it down more in detail for each.

Winx Club - the reasons already mentioned, the magical elements which I love, the dark storylines, the character arcs, what is there not to love.

Pretty Cure - sure it is another show that tried to cash in on Sailor Moon like those Scooby Doo clones that Hanna Barbara kept making in the 70's, but so what. I loved the two main characters, and how they formed such a strong friendship even though they are different. As well as the magical elements and darker storylines. I am not going to lie to you, I thought Honoko was cute which didn't hurt the shows appeal.

Jem - mostly the same as above. Though it didn't have that much of dark storylines and more technology and science based as I perfer magic over technology, but it had some awesome action adventures, excellent character arcs, and I loved the music.

I tell you this, of the shows I mention the Care Bears are the only true guilty plessure of mine. I take great pride in the other shows mention and not hestitant to defend them. I feel no shame in liking them, the Care Bears is another story.

I second 3-2-1 Penguins and Winx Club; the former is funny entertaining despite its' E/I factor, and I enjoy all of the characters, and I find the stories, magic powers and fantasy world that Winx Club inhabits to be fascinating.

Another guilty pleasure show for me is Metalocalypse. Normally, I'm not into shows with excessive amounts of violence, blood and gore in them, but I find the band member characters so humorously brainless and self-absorbed that I can look past all of the rampant brutality. The idea of vapid celebrities who hold godlike sway over the general public but are still just vapid celebrities is a rich premise that IMO doesn't need to be punctuated by all of the graphic stuff.

It was pretty much the same story with me. My parents didn't want me watching it because they thought it was a "girl show", but I secretly watched it anyway, and I freely admit that I love the show now.

Another show I consider a guilty pleasure is "The Buzz On Maggie." I didn't expect to like it, since I don't care for any of Disney Channel's shows for tweens, but I gave it a chance and I loved it! Even though it was mainly made for pre-teen girls, I still thought it was very funny.

I also really like The Tigger Movie and Pooh's Heffalump Movie. I know that the newer Pooh movies are aimed at a younger audience than the classic featurettes, but I still like them. And I just think Lumpy is so cute, even if he was mainly created to sell plush toys.

I have had a Few of these myself....

Hamtaro (it was like Rugrats, But with hamsters..Whats Not to love)
Sailor moon (Loved this show as a kids it was like Power Rangers, but with Girls in mini Skirts.)
Magiacl Doremi (It was elivised Candy, & Even in my later years I was Swayed by Shows with lots of Color, One of the Reasons i curse my inner Child, LULZ)

Nowadays the only show I watch ever now & then i consider Guilty Pleasuers are the Ocassional Yugioh episode & mabye Lilo & Stitch, mostly for the Lilo centric eps, no Way would i consider stitch a guilty pleasure, that Alien is AWSOME! LULZ.)

I almost forgot another one.

Digimon - basiclly all of the series. Though I didn't like Frontier too much, but it had brillant writing, excellent actions and deep characters. It is one of the greatest animes ever.

Just about anything by Ralph Bakshi. I know his movies generally get a mixed reaction, especially today when watchers love to nitpick over his use of rotoscoping and live action backgrounds as opposed to drawn ones, but with the exceptions of Lord of the Rings (which I still kinda liked) and Cool World (meh), I loved every movie by him that I've seen. You can always count on him if you want to see a movie that's both a good representation of an era and very trippy.

My only real guilty pleasure is Drawn Together, because I can't think of a single sentence to use in it's defense (and don't want to try). Yes, it was poorly animated. Yes, it was made almost solely to use shock in order to compete with the likes of Family Guy. Yes, it's characters were unlikable. Yes, It's music was annoying. Yes, yes, yes, it wasn't even all that funny.

I still like it, though.

A lot of other shows I like (or at least think our decently made)
- Veggietales, Jane & the Dragon, Arthur, Pokemon, Family Guy, Totally Spies- could conceivably be guilty pleasures, except I'm not guilty about it, 'cuz I know why I like them.

Hamtaro. I woke up every morning to watch it. And I have no idea why.

Also, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi. The writing was lame, the jokes weren't all that funny, the animation wasn't that great, and the only characters with good design were Ami, Yumi, and Kaz (and the never seen Julie) whereas everyone else looked hideous. I knew it was a bad show but, for some reason, I enjoyed watching it.

Hmmm

Sailor Moon- It's a "girl's" show, and it's really cheesy and sometimes lame, but I love it. >_>;

Hamtaro- I loved this show. And I have 4 episodes on VHS. Lotsa people hate it and say it's childish... lol.

Veggietales-I'm not religious in any way, but I still can't get The Hairbrush Song out of my head, among several other things.
Powerpuff Girls-Being a 17 year old male, I can't say I'm too proud of owning the complete series. Still, Mojo Jojo is the main reason I love the show.
My Life as a Teenage Robot-What it lacked in consistently good writing (and a decent first season), it made up for in an endearing cast, awesome designs, and occaisonal moments of brilliance (I consider the ending to The Price of Love to be one of the most awesome in any contemporary cartoon).

Bakugan Battle Brawlers. Well, pretty much any Mon show for that reason.

I also sort of agree on Winx Club. When I first started watching it, I wasn't really into "girly" shows, but its fantastic plot and elements drew me into it. The dialogue (though I'm not sure if it's just the 4Kids translation or not) is what made it such a guilty pleasure, but after getting into Sex and the City, I don't really think that a show aimed at a younger audience that has to follow certain standards with a continuity-based plot that doesn't mainly involve fashion, dating, and guys is as much of a guilty pleasure as I once thought of it.

Um... One Piece (Shounen) and Monster (Seinen) are not aimed at me, but I still enjoy them. lol.

I wouldn't call them a guilty pleasure, because I'm never going to deny that I enjoy either of them.

More of a guilty pleasure would be Dragon Ball Z. For some reason I still enjoy that anime even though I can clearly see what's wrong with it now. I just can't understand why I enjoy it at all. I haven't watched it in forever, but I still think it's "cool" for some reason. Which bothers me. o_O
