Conway, the improvements I've noticed with the camera aren't gigantic, but certainly pictures taken indoors at night (i.e., in the pub) are hugely better, mainly because the autofocus now...focuses! This has helped with daytime outdoor pictures, too -improved focus.
Perhaps you already had a newer firmware than some others?
I'm using the "mid", by the way - figured that would be better than "low", but that was a complete guess!

Flipje - having just noticed a couple of tiny scratches on my phone, so I think I could do with a shield cover, if you wouldn't mind sending me one of those vouchers? :-)

Ah!
I JUST NOW got the phone (I bought from Dutch guy on Ebay) and lucky me; there is swedish on it as you said!

Now I just need to see what firmware version it is.. I might need to update it!

Ciao for now

Good!,
This is what seemed to me but I run camera test almost right after flashing and I was not sure about that.

It would be interesting if somebody could take some reference pictures before running camera test and compare same pictures taken after running the test.

So no improvement to camera then? thats a pity thats why i want to do the firmware update. I was hoping the update did this, someone else said it did.

So anything else updated.fixed/better then?

HI
the program on an HD in your PC is not the same as a bin files in a flash it is more like if you trying to do an CD image by reading and program it bit to bit .
basicly there is a flash that got address and data and the reading is add-data ..... you can write it back there is no problom if you got the driver to do that (this is what the programmer doing )

do you know how to get the flash bit stream from the F480?

Pooh

try lyric show player, really great one, far greater then kd player

her's the link, it works great on my z400 http://www.box.net/shared/hqyqbdekgw if not try to look for another version

Not sure on the mid and low front with the .rc2 files but have always flashed with low.

HF7 seems pretty decent and the camera is a tad quicker and has lost most of that soft pixellated look on the screen.

Thanks for that. And thats to WestHej for posting the guide. Took less than five minutes to update the firmware.

HI all, I just got a Tocco (Vodaphone branded but not locked) and am using an O2 sim (PAYG) in it at the moment. I'm maybe being a bit thick today but i need 2 questions answered.

1) Being in the UK, what is the latest/best firmware to use... i cant make head or tail of which version number is best/newest. (If it helps I will be using the handset in the USA and Europe occasionally).

2) What is the command that i use to check the firmware version I have? I saw it earlier when browsing and now cant find it!.

Thanks all and sorry about the noobish questions

Thx Stu.

Where is the new firmware come from then? if Samsung dont release it?

I was thinking f complaining to Samsung and saying about various probs, to send it in and then hopefuly then would upate it?

What else does that F7 firmware give you? is that the latest one?
My phone is insured so at a push I suppose it could get dropped in water if it broke on an update

I dunno if it is worth it htough, althou you say it is, what other improvements does it have pls?

cheers

wouldn't count on that samsung isn't THAT eager to release new firmware, that's the first point, then your companies/providers use their own branded firmware not necessarily based on the latest one, third even if they release fws it's not easy to get them, finally they must have loads of problems with f480 since rev number is 7 [xxhf7] usually there weere 1 or 2 revisions but not seven!

Hi

I haven't read on this forum the firmware: F480XXHDA (note no number on the end).

My phone is unlocked in the UK and I purchased from Carphone Warehouse.

I can't seem to find the firmware in case I need to go back to it...I'm not even sure if I will be able to flash it (with it ending in 'A')

As anyone flashed from the above firmware to the F480XXHF7 - Did it go OK?

Another question: Can I flash F488 firmware to the Tocco - if so which is the best firmware in the F488???

@loc111: I understand your fear - new phone, cost a lot of money... Although I have not tried this one yet, there appear to be many saying the first post is spot on. I was frightened to death when I first flashed a phone (D900-I hate how Samsung phones were unable to apply MP3 to message tones. I have since done a few and my G600) but these guys/girls will help you out for sure IF you have any problems.
Just make sure you follow the guide to the letter (read over it again and again before you press that 'no turning back' button) and by the looks of other peoples opinions all will go smoothly.
Once I find my firmware - mentioned above - I will be going for it as I find my firmware lags slightly, sometimes I have to tap the screen a couple of times before the command is followed and the camera is not always that good but other times as sharp as a pin! ANYWAY, GOOD LUCK IF YOU GO AHEAD.

What's the camera rewrite flash thing? I just did the flash as described on page 1. The firmware which came on the phone was F480XXHDA (which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere) and have flashed to HF7. I bought the phone off eBay. Was told it was from O2.

Can't comment on any improvements as I got the phone and flashed it straight away.

Although I am intrigued about this camera rewrite???

Thanks

Lee

Oh and not had any problems with the phone so far and like I said before I forgot to take the SIM out when I flashed it.
