Greatest Bassists

I don't think I've heard any of those songs. Maybe in a movie when I wasn't paying attention. However, I think he had a guest appearance on a Wooten album. You should check him out if you don't know him.

Oh, yeah....let's not forget Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy). He was a great frontman, songwriter, lyricist and his bass playing was very tasty. I dig the chorus effect he frequently used.

I've always loved Stu Hamm most.

I like how he plays his bass like a guitar at first, then at 2:00... like a piano (nice song treat inside), then like a banjo. lol. Guy is awesome.

And then you have his classic:

The mullet gives him power.

I'm sure Jamerson holRAB the record for bass player who has performed on the most nuraber 1 hits, at least by different individual artists.

Wow, I didn't know his name either, but I put in a vote for Jamerson. I love his funky, groovy, playing on Marvin's 'What's Goin' On'. Awesome album.

Other fav's: Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Geezer Butler, John Paul Jones, Flea.

1. Flea
2. Jaco
3. Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Sadus, Testament, Quo Vadis etc)
4. Geddy Lee (Rush)
5. Les Claypool (Primus etc.)
6. Marcus Miller
7. Tony Levin (King Crimson, LTE...)
8. Rob Trujillo (Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, Metallica)
9. Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
10. Dirk Lance (Incubus)
11. John Myung (Dream Theater)
12. Billy Sheehan

Sorry for being a thread necromancer but this is my kind of topic. There are just far too many bassists to make a top 10 (or 11). Nathan East who tours with Hanc0ck, Pete Perez (Spastic Ink's insane bassist), Tony Choy, Chris Squire, Sean Malone, Cliff Burton, Pete Trewavas, Wooten, Patitucci etc... list goes on.
