Great films that are hardly ever, if ever, shown on TV.

I was going to say to Ted that'd seen (some of) this and then I read Frankie's post.

I have seen the middle ! It must have been on 'last play' as I waited for it to be repeated and it wasn't.

I like the stars and bearing in mind A EdwarRAB fame in ER, I am surprised it is not shown. Maybe not cheery enough?

^ This! I've had two copies of this on VHS both of which have been chewed up.

It really is a flippin shame it'll never be released on DVD, it's an awesome film and makes me laugh every time.

Personal Services (1987) with Julie Walters as the Cynthia Payne type character, very funny and in parts poignant,

and

The Cat And The Canary (1939), with Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard, brilliantly funny and scary at the same time. I'd love to get it on DVD but when I've looked on Amazon the copies are apparently not very good.

None of Ken Russell's ( apart from maybe Tommy ) get a showing, Isadora, The Boyfriend, Mahler, Altered States, The Devils.

C' mon C4, how about a Season of Ken's films ?

Breaking Glass
Not even officially on DVD or video. :(

Flame (Great film starring Slade)

Wombling Free (If you've seen it you'll know why)

Hercules against Kung Fu (1973) I don't know anyone who saw this film. I went with my brother and he doesn't even remember it.

The Philadelphia Experiment

I saw it once or possibly twice, many years ago on telly. It probably isn't even that good, but for some reason it sticks with me.

The Seven-Ups

Roy Scheider, a fine car chase and... Roy Scheider! :D I suppose I could try and get a region 1 DVD from the US, but...

The Warriors

This should 'come out and play' every Christmas. :D I have the 'best' DVD version, but more people should see this.

I know what you mean about those being the days. I still have VHS recordings of C4 screenings of Sunrise, The Iron Horse, Wings, Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse, Phantom Of The Opera, The Wind, Intolerance, and many others.

BTW: Brilliant thread. :)

Has reminded me of many gems I would like to see again.

Have to remember to tune in to this some time in the future and see what films have been added :)

AMEN to that!!! :D

They could start with a nice big shiny HD print of the restored version of Ken Russell's naked-nympho-nun masterpiece The Devils.

'The Dove' starring Joseph Bottoms about a young guy sailing around the world single handed.

I'm sure this film was reasonably big in it's time but seems to have dissapeared off the face of the earth.

Was that the one where Lenny Henry does a cracking version of the Dobie grey song "Drift Away"?

I recently bought (and watched yesterday) "CrossroaRAB" the film with Ralph Macchio and Joe Seneca - that used to be on a lot but not for some years now.

I'll add:

Being There.
