Great shout, but imo Lewis' greatest performance was in My Left Foot. I couldn't believe how good he was in that, I was amazed he was acting, he was so convincing.
Robert Downey Jr = Iron Man (He made that movie)
Heath Ledger = The Dark Knight (this time the hype was true)
Tom F'n Cruise = Interview with the vampire (he made the part his own)
Brad Pitt = Kalifornia (Like it or not he's a great actor)
Val Kilmer = The Doors (He became Jim Morrison)
Can't comment on Kethy Bates in Dolores Claiborne as I haven't seen the film, but I agree that both Jodie Foster and Bette Davis were superb in the films you posted, it's just that I preferred the other films that I named.
I'll add.......
Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity
Fredric March in The Best Years Of Our Lives (one of the best "forgotten" actors in cinema history IMO)
Myrna Loy in The Best Years Of Our Lives ( very, very underrated as an actress which is a shame)
I'll probably be contradicted for this but Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice,I think she was brilliant and should have got the Oscar for it.
Gary Oldman in Leon. Though i agree Natalie Portman is very good in this film.
Christian Bale is incredible in 'The Machinist' The film and his performance completely took me by suprise and made me a huge Bale fan. It's a movie that neeRAB more than one viewing, it really makes you appreciate the how clever the film is! Also Bale in Rescue Dawn is amazing. He really goes through it in that one. The film also contains a brilliant performance from Jeremy Davies. Lost's Daniel Faraday. Well worth watching if you haven't seen it.
Cary Grant in North by Northwest (so many brilliant expressions)
Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs(best performance ever)
Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun (wish he had kept this standard up)
Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight. (genius)
I'm probably going to ask the wife to get rescue dawn for me for my birthday. IMDB gave it a decent score too, and I have most of Bale's films. He's amazing in most things. He even made Reign of Fire bearable.
