I know, no role has worked out for him like that one. I don't think he has that great a range for an actor, but Withnail was obviously made for him. Fantastic :D

I think he does have a great range and not sure but think he does a lot of theatre work, as he's a bit of a luvvie, saw him once in Notting Hill fancy restaurant with his buddies:cool:

Which films have you seen where one actor has been really impressive and you always remember how good they were

For me it would include Anthony Perkins in Psycho and James Caan in The Godfather

I agree with that, she was fantastic.

Oh and Humphrey Bogart in the African Queen.

John Wayne in True Grit (sorry but I just love Westerns)

Kirk Douglas AND Sir Larry in Spartacus

Not a fan of his recent movies but Tom Cruise in Magnolia, along with possibly John Reilly.

Kevin Spacey in American Beauty. Not really a fan of his movies either but this was near perfection.

Sean Penn in I Am Sam
Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet
Robert Downey Jr. in A Scanner Darkly

Good calls on Anthony Hopkins in Magic & Denzell Washington in Training Day.

Dustin Hoffman - Midnight Cowboy: To go from playing a young college grad in The Graduate to playing a scummy con man in Midnight Cowboy was an amazing transformation.

Guy Pearce - Memento: Who would have thought that a one-time Neighbours actor would be so good

Samuel L Jackson - Pulp Fiction: A film stealing performance.

Robert De Niro - Taxi Driver: Seemed to be quite a hard role to pull off, but De Niro accomplished it with ease.

Michael Caine - Sleuth: Michael tenRAB to be a bit samey with his parts but he was on top form against the master Olivier in this film.

Daniel Day-Lewis - There Will Be Blood: A measured and detailed portrayal which deservedly won the oscar.

Paddy Considine - Dead Man's Shoes: - Outstanding performance in Shane Meadows dark film, quite mesmerizing.
