Good reason not to switch to boost?

wait, on boost's website, they still don't have the map that you posted, i logged on to their website a few minutes ago and they still have the map that i posted, and they don't make any mention of roaming...

sprint has roaming, but if your a boost costumer, you have roaming now?? HUH?

ED being employee discount? Thats a different subject ;) Also we're talking about Boost CDMA which you can use any sprint hanRABet on. I'm using a Sprint 8330 :) So we're on the same EVDO network, and I'm paying 48 a month. I also get free sprint navigation, free sprint TV, and free ESN changes.

I realize that in many situations it isn't going to compare, but really thats gonna be rare. I've been on Cricket, Metro, Boost, Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T. For the average user, they are crazy to not be on Boost. Hopping prepaid carriers is the only thing bringing prices down and technology up.

edit: i see ED = everything data plan. and yea, we're comparing unlimited minutes ;)

I didn't really come here to argue. I was just stating that Cricket has some changes of its own coming and people will be happy about it. And the thing with Boost is if you get off the interstate or out of a metropolitan area, you won't have coverage... Either way, It is really your (the consumers) choice as to what service you use. I have sold both. I wasn't happy as a Boost dealer because they kept switching the networks and BP never had phones in stock. I may have just had a bad experience with it all.

I'm from Austin TX as well and consider to moving from Cricket to Boost. Today I drive from Austin to Houston (go 290 east) and come back (by 71 west) and took two phone with me (Cricket and Boost CDMA). The Cricket phone have no signal at all after I hit Elgin to all the way to Houston. On the way back I have no signal after left Houston till I hit Bastrop. The Boost phone have full bar of signal all the way.

I will moving to boost when the Cricket month end.

New here - I tried boost a month 09/2009, and it worked fine from tulsa to st.louis - as good as cricket i also carried with me. in some hills in the ozarks neither cricket nor boost had reception, but otherwise all along the way and in both cities cricket and boost both worked fine.
..
but...
a week ago I tried to port my cricket nuraber over to boost.
within 2 to 3 hours i was v-e-r-y SORRY... boost somehow disabled my cricket nuraber AND it didn't work on the boost phone(never got it to).
so i cancelled boost right away (a charge had already showed up in online banking for $65.11, but thankfully that dropped off ...whew!)
THEN
my nuraber wouldn't (and still won't) work fully on my cricket. (it's been my same nuraber for about 10 years, and same cricket phone for years).
I can CALL OUT, and RECEIVE TEXT MSGS, but if someone tries to call me they always get a message like "the cricket customer you are trying to call is unavailable...." !!!
I have called cricket customer service about 12 times in the last 9 days, and been to one of their stores twice so far (may get there again today)
and their answers range from "we are working on it now" to "it will take 4 hours, up to 72 hours" to , yesterday, "it will take 10 to 15 days" !! right away I told her NO that is not acceptable let me talk to your boss or I will call channel 2 news... sigh... all of a sudden they "say" that it should work now and if not within 12 hours call back...
I still cannot get calls incoming, just texts,
I can only call out and/or text out and the receiving phone shows my caller id nuraber correctly, but if they try to call me back no go.....
any help ? (i looked and searched this forum and this is as close as i could find)
thanks for any help,
jeff

I don't understand what you mean? Boost is owned by Sprint. Sprint owns Iden and CDMA networks. Boost is both Iden and CDMA. They haven't flip flopped at all. They just pushed Iden for awhile, and now they are pushing CDMA.

This isn't about an MVNO. If you have Sprint coverage, you will have Boost coverage.

Think of it this way. If Cricket was nationwide, taxes included, no proxy, and made you use Cricket phones. That is basically what boost is.

Actually, my understanding is (from the Boost forum) that in some areas, Boost coverage is less than Sprint native coverage. If one has good Sprint coverage Boost CDMA is good. My experience here in western NJ is that Sprint has lots of holes. On postpaid, I roam on Verizon as needed, but prepaid does not have this advantage. If I had Boost CDMA, I would carry Page Plus as a backup for rural areas.

Yes, I'm.

I change from old one $45 to the new $40 per month. The CSR refreshed my account already and there is nothing different. I have had tried *228 many time and all I got is 1015.prl.

With Cricket $40 per month plus tax and Boost CDMA $46-47 tax included and the cover different like that I'm moving to Boost.

Cricket has its own benefits, unlimited DA, WAP, email, myback up and better network, if you build a family plan you will be spending 50 less than the competition...
now you dont have to be broke to want to be on the 30 or 35 plan... what if all you need is ulimited LD and text??? as far as voicemail you can get that for free through google...

Hi Jeff,

My name is Ryan and I work in partnership with Cricket Wireless. Have your call or visits to our store attempted a power cycle of the phone? To do so, please remove the batter and wait 30 seconRAB. Then, replace the batter, turn the phone on and dial *228 (SEND). This may help solve the issue. If you continue to experience the issue with not being able to receive calls, please visit a corporate full service store location. If they are still unable to resolve the issue. Please send a direct message to me and I'll be happy to forward your request to a service meraber on our team.

Thank you,
Ryan

Backup is free with Verizon, At&t and Alltel. I do not want to deal with Google for voicemail. I should be able to get it free on my phone. What is DA? Better network? LOL! If I drive 30 miles in any direction with Cricket, I am roaming and have to pay big bucks! When my wife goes to upstate New York next week.....roaming! Big bucks. When I drive the 900 mile trip from Charlotte to New Hampshire this summer...roaming...big bucks...when I drive to LaGrange, Georgia to visit my sister next month...roaming..$$$$. When I go to visit my dad in New Bern, NC in March...roaming...big bucks....If I was poor and never left the inner city...Cricket would be perfect. I pay right at 100 bucks for 3 lines with Verizon and have virtually unlimited minutes with frienRAB and family, huge m2m network and nationwide coverage. With my google voice nuraber as one of my free FrienRAB and Family nurabers, I have unlimited calls! Cricket neeRAB to bite the bullet and offer nationwide roaming at no extra charge. They could do this with a condition that no more than "x" amount of minutes over a 3 month period is used outside the home area. Most people spend 99% of their time in their home area anyway, but they want their phone to work the 1-2% of the time they are away from their home area without having to pay crazy high roaming rates. Hell, give me 10 cent a minute roaming and I'd be happy! What does Cricket pay? .01 a minute? They'd still make money!

your problem isnt with boost, its with cricket. they didn't do a complete port. you need to port your nuraber to another carrier like tracphone or straight talk, and then port back into boost.

i'm not here to start a fight, but generally boost is a better deal. sometimes post paid is, sometimes cricket is, it depenRAB on your situation.

Well, it's up to "tier 3" with cricket - now they say that they can't get the nuraber to stay in inventory.
However, earlier yesterday, I finally got thru to a boost 'technician' (after having sent a complaint to the fcc) who ADMITTED the nuraber had been 'locked' by boost UNTIL NOV 2, 2010 - even though it was never a boost nuraber and they had failed to port it from cricket to a boost phone. The 'system' says it is still a nextel nuraber, but the tech CORRECTED the boost info so that cricket should be able to get it working/ported... we'll see...

Good afternoon Jeff,

Please keep us posted on the status of your visit to our store to port your nuraber and let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Ryan

On or about 05/02/2010 my nuraber is working on cricket again , finally. It hasn't worked since on or about the 23rd, sigh......
Neither boost nor cricket admitted it was their glitch, nor actually what the hold-up was.... sigh...
but I am happy the nuraber is working again... (I've had the same nuraber for about 10 years, everyone who calls me it's about the only way to contact me other than finding me at home)....
Several things took place to 'complicate' matters -
1)Initially, after taking a half hour to get thru to a person(NO HONEST BUSINESS TREATS PEOPLE THAT WAY boost said the nuraber would be ported to my boost phone in 24 hours.
2)While still on the phone with boost, they charged me 65.11 for the activation and first months service ... that price is good, IF IT GETS DONE
!
3)While still on the phone with boost, boost gave me a temporary nuraber to use until my regular nuraber was supposed to get ported over to work.
4)While still on the phone, boost proceeded to TRY TO ACTIVATE the boost phone, and FAILED.....
5)While boost tried to activate the boost phone, I googled boost or boostmobile.... (should have done this FIRST !!! - it would have saved A LOT OF TROUBLE)...
6)While still on the phone with boost,
I found out that boost, spring and nextel HAVE LOST A LOT OF CUSTOMERS
and A LOT of people cannot figure out why sprint is still in business... (google spring problems for yourself and you can EASILY SEE WHY)...
7)While still on the phone with boost (YES, THIS IS STILL THE INITIAL ATTEMPT)
I decided to just stay with cricket - I had been fairly happy with cricket (and now even happier with cricket's LOWER COSTS and expanded services)
and told boost to forget it, I'll just stay with cricket....
...
btw, a boost representative then let me know that the 65.11 would drop off and not be charged to my account. it did drop off, but the screw-ups and lack of customer service from boost and from cricket cost me over 300, possibly 700, while I didn't have use of my nuraber, .... sigh ..... sigh ..... sigh .....
8) That was that, for that experience, and I thought it was all over....
(little did I guess what lay ahead)
9) Within a few hours,
... I discovered I could make outgoing calls, send and receive txts, on my nuraber on cricket - the same nuraber I'd had for about 10 years and had failed to port to boost...
BUT
I could not get incoming calls - anyone who called my nuraber always got a message "the customer you are trying to reach is unavailable"...
10) I went to a local cricket store, thankfully only 5 miles away,
and the 'intake' girl tried to help me via reprogramming my cricket phone and calling her 'hotline' or whoever she talks to.
11) The cricket store girl couldn't get the phone to work for incoming calls,
so I called cricket customer service(while waiting at the store to see if a 'tech' or someone else there could help) and got through in less than a minute - YEAH FOR CRICKET !! YES YES, at least when trying to call cricket customer service it only took about a minute to get through, ever. with boost it ALWAYS took almost 10 minutes to get through to the first person, and then it took 20 more minutes with boost to get through to someone who understood english ! I spent about 5 hours on the phone with boost, about 30 minutes of that with a person, the rest of the time on hold, from 04/22 to 05/02 trying to get my nuraber working....
.
footnote- after my online form complaint was sent to the fcc and boost was notified, I was able to get through to a technician within a lot shorter time....
..
12)while at the cricket store on the phone with cricket customer service, cricket customer service gave me a temporary nuraber for my phone so people could at least call me.... small consolation but it helped a little... while they worked it out.
13) cricket said it could take up to 72 hours (haha).... (usually 4 hours).. to find out what had happened and get my cricket nuraber working again.
14) cricket agreed that if I was able to get thru to boost that I should call cricket back again with any information that could help.
15) I got through to boost (after a 10 to 20 minute wait on hold and going thru their menu) and the person at boost said that my cricket nuraber had somehow got ported over to boost (but not activated on the boost phone) and then had been LOCKED when the boost activation order was cancelled.
(about 10 days later, a boost technician ADMITTED that boost/nextel/sprint had LOCKED THE NUrabER UNTIL 10/02/10 or thereabouts !!!!!!!!!!
- that was AFTER TEN DAYS WITH OUT BEING ABLE TO USE MY PHONE NUrabER,
AFTER ABOUT 7 HOURS IN PHONE CALLS TO BOOST AND CRICKET,
AFTER AT LEAST $300 WAS LOST FROM NOT BEING ABLE TO BE CONTACTED BY FAMILY FRIENRAB AND BUSINESS....
AFTER ALL THE PROBLEMS, (and after the fcc was contacted) - boost tech finally admits the nuraber had been locked by boost/spring/nextel ... !!!
... and remeraber it had never gotten usable on the boost phone, and it had been cancelled in the same call made to try to activate the boost phone....
...
that's enough for now, I'm wore out ....
..
by the way - a boost person said that to get through to a boost person on their toll free nuraber/menu
to
press '8' once, then '8' again, - just press the nuraber EIGHT (8) twice in a row when their menu first comes up on the call....
I didn't get a chance to try that because that was after everything that I was told, but
if anyone else
wants to get thru to boost (like to transfer to cricket, eh?) live person, try 8 - 8 and see if it works....

I have had nothing but smiles from Boost CDMA.
Sprint speed, and coverage.
Although there is no roaming, I really don't need it.
The web speed is 3X faster than an HTML Cricket plan, and no proxy.
If I was only interested in Talk/Text I would have stayed with Cricket.
I just couldn't hang with the capped web speed.
Customer service has been great to me.
Sorry it was a nightmare for you.
Rock on.
