GERD and PPI. Please advise.?

I have been taking PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitors) 20mg, empty stomach daily in the morning for last 7-8 years for my GERD problem.

Recently I visited a renowned Gastroenterologist in another city. He conduced “Video Endoscopy”, “24 Hrs Ph monitoring” and “Esophageal Manometry”. He told me that my GERD was due to “Mechanical functional problem” and the functional problem was less than 50%. He advice me not to take PPI but instead prescribed me “sucralfate” 10ml 3 times before meal for 1 months.
It has been over 2 weeks since I stopped taking PPI. But this has led to problems. I suffer from mild “food pipe burning sensation ” and I can feel my stomach burning because of excess acid in my stomach. Jogging also leads to increase in the burning sensation.

Kindly advice. Does the PPI have withdrawal symptoms? I was on them for around 8 years.
What are the other withdrawal symptoms? How long will they last?
Will my symptoms subside with time. Should I go back to PPI? I already have taken PPI for too long.
Please advice.
