George and mildred

Don't think thats correct.

Grade was responsible for the end of the original LWT run but by the time the new series was made Grade had been with the BBC for several years , and even if he had still been at LWT in 1986 he would have had no power to stop any other regions from airing it- hence why Granada etc showed it.

Even Thames could have shown it had they wanted to.

I've not seen it but I'm assuming it was even worse than the final series of the original run which is why most regions passed on it

You are probably right. Here is the blurb from TV-ark I was going from...

LWT boss Michael Grade considered this sitcom "manifestly irresponsible." As a seven year-old, I thought it was the best programme ever, but more than 30 years later its failure as entertainment is apparent. It gains easy laughs at the expense of foolish foreigners who can't understand English or stand each other. It's more lame than racist, but Asian viewers would probably still recoil from the stereotypes played by Albert Moses, Dino Shafeek and Pik-Sen Lim. The only redeeming feature is the title music by Max Harris, to accompany the animated title sequence by Martin Lambie-Nairn. Our clip is from the first season episode "All Through the Night" (20/01/1978). It's one of the few in which the comedy springs from the characters reacting to a tricky situation, when the tipsy caretaker locks everyone in, rather than their ignorance. Some of the cast thought kindly of it, because Moses produced a revival in 1986. It was screened in the Granada, HTV, Central & Ulster regions, but not by LWT...

Yeah, he starred in tons of films and tv shows as a child and young man, bought his parents a house aged 13 he was so well off.

Getting back to G&M, I've missed the ITV3 eps as been watching Coach Trip, are they hacked to bits like they were on Paramount/Comedy Central?

Havent noticed anything, but there isnt a lot to censor in G&M. With Man About the house you get the word 'poof' a lot and nude pictures on the wall in the background, so if they ever show those I would bet theyd be hacked, like Paramount & Comedy Central did.

ITV3 tend to massacre most of their stuff, Olive's bare arse has been cut out of every showing of Holiday On the Buses. Is it a good thing? :D

Play don't even reckon its on sale yet

Just started watching MATH again .
For a 70's ITV sitcom it really is quite good.
Despite being sent out on the Mortimer/Cooke production line it works today.

Although its very much helped by perfect casting and some loveable characters.

I just dug out my dvd of the ITV All Star Comedy Carnival for 1973.
You remember those Xmas day extravaganzas where ITV regions actually worked with each other and made a 1.5 - 2hour show filled with 10-15 minute versions of ITV current sitcom hits.

Apparently 1973 is the only complete show that exists and its hosted by Jimmy Tarbuck.
MATH has a short episode within it so I wonder why Network failed to include it with the dvd's.

Although the earlier shows do not exist complete the 1969 show had an episode of The Dustbinmen and Network included that on the dvd's.

Imagine - a single ITV show with content from Thames , LWT,ATV and YTV altogether.

Must be the only times that Thames and LWT ever broke from their weekday/weekend schedule

No idea what play are playing at  Been showing as "coming soon" for weeks.

Ive got the 73 comedy carnival with the MATH short, and also the 1972 with On the Buses, love thy neighbour, 30 minutes worth. Quite a fun show.

I dug out my dvd of the BBC's 1998 series on the history of the British sitcom.
I only recorded the 70's one and that was when it was repeated.
Nice to see interviews with Paula Wilcox ,Sally Thomsett and one of the MATH writers.
Love Thy Neighbour leaRAB also interviewed too.

There was a clip from Miss Jones and Son with Paula Wilcox which reminded me that its out on dvd soon.

All about an unmarried mother . Shock Horror

About time we had an update

I've just ordered your book Tex so I hope it's better than the On the Buses book which was a compilation of info all available on the net.
