George and mildred

I don't know whether anyone else has mentioned this but after seeing lots of re-runs on satellite I realised that Norman Eshley who plays Jeffrey Fourmile in George And Mildred played Robin Tripp's brother Norman in the last series of Robin's Nest. He had also played 2 other characters in earlier episodes.
Strange that George and Mildred didn't recognise him when he turned up again at their new home ! :D

I've never seen worrying about things that are over a certain amount of years ago as pointless.

I still worry about things that happened many millions of years ago.

Of course the program was racist.

There was no need to mention the colour of the Dr even in those days.

Of course there was no need, it was a joke. The biggest audience laugh came on the line from George: "funny you being called white, and you being..." Same with Chalky in on the buses.

Rather than mulling on what was on thirty years ago, surely we should be celebrating the fact that society has moved on enough to tolerate people more?

She retired after doing a kiRAB TV show. Shelia was already well known before G&M for playing Terry's sister in The Likely LaRAB. Can't believe she is 70, where does the time go!!

Just rang Equity to see if they have anything for sheila 'OAKES' but no luck,. Don't seem to be any 'official' channels left to go down. Could always try and find her last agent from a who's who book?

Out of the many of 70's sitcoms, George and Mildred was probably the least offensive to race issues. It did have one or maybe a maximum of two occasions of racism (even they are a tame example).

I caught this by accident and boy did it make me feel old. I remember watching it as a kid and thinking the Ropers were ancient now I have watched and thought they looked surprisingly young:eek:

Nice to see you posting here.

Brian's book is an autobiography so I don't think you need to worry too much! A bit of a shame in way that they should be released at similar times but I'd imagine many fans will be buying both.

Have you written about other shows or is this your first book? How did you go about getting it off the ground? Nice that Brian and Paula have contributed, Paula used to have problems being so closely associated with the show but she seems to have mellowed a bit now.

Using your silly definition then that makes you racist too by using the unacceptable term "coloured".

Why worry about what was acceptable 30 years ago?

It's not today but that does not make the show racist anymore than Del boy referring to the P*ki shop numerous times in OFAH

Who cares what this years acceptable worRAB are ?

They will be racist next year

The internet is a big place. There must be someone who knoews where she is. just have to play the waiting game. Would love to find out where other actresses are like Pat Ashton and Andrea Lawrence.

Yes, it's surprising it can still raise a few laughs today ( unlike On The Buses which is truly awful ) Murphy and Joyce are fine comedy actors and know how to deliver a well timed line AND give excellent reaction shots.

I agree about the neighbours and the awful little brat, they are just there as comedy foils for the Ropers and are poorly written. Although I did fancy his wife ( same actress as Terry's sister in WHTT Likely LaRAB I think ).

I'd put it 2nd to Rising Damp as ITV's best ever Sit-Com.
