garfield15's journey through the UC.

Uh, all that is the movie version.

The Ocean version is far better. I'd say Char and Bright are stand-outs, but Inu-Kai-sha is pretty decent too.

Dub Bright is flat and monotone. I know he's supposed to be an ill prepared prick for most of MSG, but he still neeRAB to be likeable. It's especially amusing if you watch the 'Journey to Jaburo' extra on Miller's Report. Bright bleating on about Amuro needing to make the Gundam his focus and become a great pilot is directly followed up with him moaning that Amuro is too good a pilot and they'll need to remove him lest he disrupt the group....make up your damned mind!

Yeah, when I was playing DWG2 and Kai came in, I was like "....Dude, is that Allelujah?"

So Lockon's VA is the only one of the Meisters who hasn't been in Gundam before. Well, Bandai's gotta keep the talent pool fresh somehow.

Okay Movie 3. Which means I'll have seen a week which took children in Japan nearly a year to finish. Good stuff, this "30 years later business"

-Hmm...Bright going to the Side where Mirai's fiance lives? Well, I wonder if this visit will be awkward at all?

-I feel for Amuro about his parents. I really do. I mean, not to the extent that my mom chides me for being in a war and my dad is suffering from oxygen deprived insanity but I know how it feels to feel like you're completely isolated from your parents and that they no longer care about you. I've heard a lot of people say how Amuro is way too whiny and even if that's true, it's not like he has nothing to whine about and that his life doesn't suck. He's in a war after all.

-So this is Lalah. Her seiyuu has a deeper voice for her than I imagined. Speaking of which, Lalah doesn't seem like the type of person I'd let drive a car. (Best moment is Char getting a tow cable to tow Amuro's car out. It's like "What? So I'm a charismatic warlord who revels in battle? I can't help out my fellow man once in a while?)

-Okay, what is it with the Gundam franchise and slapping people? Outside of G, whenever somebody wants to get ahold of somebody when they're BSOD'ing they slap them. (As opposed to G where MEN COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR FISTS!) Now, this wouldn't be so bad if they weren't doing it to everybody including women (I just saw Slegger slap Mirai and I'm like "DUDE?"). This happened in 00 at least more than twice and I think I commented on it. (The only slaps that are acceptable are Bright Slap's because he's awesome like that)

-Ah, so the Big Zam is coming. I so hate that thing in DW:G2.

-Awwwwww, Bright cares about Mirai so much. "I'm willing to wait for you." Cliched but still pulls at the ol' heartstrings.

-Slegger....you too made the impossible possible. (Screw you Big Zam)

-You know, Tomino. I'd like to watch one of your shows without thinking "Hey a new character who's beneficial to the main characters....I wonder how long until he dies?"

Can't....find...DVD's....even though I love the opening.....(screams at the sky "WHYYYY!")

Ulterior methoRAB get me dub-only which isn't bad I guess but I would like an option.

Aaaaannnddd...I'm done.

-I somehow feel that Lalah was somehow Put on a Bus. I mean, don't get me wrong. Her contribution to the story to show the continued tragedy of the Newtypes is evident. But maybe it's the condensed movie but I don't think we really got to know her as a person than a tragic individual that Char and Amuro's feelings could reach out towarRAB. That being said, I did think that the kiss scene between her and Char was rather sweet (I'm a sucker for moments like that in anime) but...um...how old is Char again?

-The entire final 50 minutes of the movie was straight-up fighting and I could very clearly see the touched up pieces of animation. The scenes themselves are probably the greatest interpretation of cosmic war I've ever seen (Of course, I'm probably missing out if that's my idea of the best interpretation)

-So was the final battle in Turn A with Loran and Gym's sword duel a parallel to Amuro's and Char's? (Even though Loran's was like...10 seconRAB and he completely owned Gym)

-Char is such a freaking beast with the bazooka right to Kycillia's head and then blowing up the ship.

-Oh man, when White Base was destroyed that really got me at the heartstrings. Just think of all that the crew has been through with that thing. I haven't felt like that since the Going Merry was burned during One Piece. Man, what is it with anime and making us feeling affection for inatimate objects

-If I hadn't known the ending already, I could have sworn that Tomino would have just said "Screw you audience, Everybody dies!" and just had the escape ships blown up before Amuro got to to everybody. I mean, the moment was just so there for him to just have Char come out and blow them all to nothing. Amuro moving slowly towarRAB his frienRAB, everybody happy and victorious, absolutely nothing going wrong...(BOOM!) I was like, "Man, that could have gone worse!"

-Well, it's too bad I'll never be able to find the original series with the original language but the movies were fine on their own and I've gotten the whole story anyway.

And now onto Zeta....

No, no, not Zeta Cross (ZX), just Zeta!

No need to worry about that last part. In MSG Char is 20, whereas Lalah is 17. Only a three year difference.

Glad you enjoyed the movies.

Come to think of it, MSG does end rather positively compared to several other old school series of its kind.

Two questions for you, garfield my friend.

1. Now that you've seen the original series that started it all what new perspectives to all AU Gundam series you watched?

2. How do you feel that Char the original Gundam masked man compares to his successors (Schwarz, Zechs, Harry, Rau, Mu/Neo and Graham)?

Oh a bunch of things.

-For starters, I now completely understand all the SEED parallels instead of me just seeing all the other comments on YT that said "DURR, SEED IS SO GAYE, IT'S TOTALLY A RIPOFF OF MSG!!11!1!!!" I completely see all the stuff that made SEED the retelling of the original that it was while adding its own story (Destiny is another story)

-GANDAMU HAMMAAAAA!! (sorry...)

-With me having seen the original, the references to Turn A Gundam are quite clear to me like the Soriel being a re-colored Zeon ship and stuff.

-And of course the obvious 0 Gundam clearly shouting out the original (But we already knew that)

(You know, Jamil was a masked man too...X gets no love...)

Anyway, this is tough because while Char is a very charasmatic masked man and a really awesome pilot (Better than Bushido IMO) I really just can't help but forget about Schwarz and his just sheer prescense in the show. Also, Zechs and Rau were rather similar to Char anyway while still being their own person.

So I'd rank them like this.
1. Schwarz
2. Char
3. Zechs
4. Jamil
5. Rau
6. Graham
7. Neo (Just for the sheer ret-con of it all)

So you're skipping the OVAs and going straight to Zeta? Interesting. I'm starting up the UC myself(watched the series instead of the movies, however), and decided to go in straight order of the supposed canon. So much so that I'm putting a temporary hold on the UC until I can get the Best Buy gift card I'm indebted to to buy 0080 myself.

Is there any chance that you're going to come back to the OVAs in the near future?

Personally, it's better to go through the show's air-date canon because the OVA's have great Easter eggs if you've seen the original, but otherwise incredibly confusing or insignificant if you haven't.

I.E. 0083 has a lot of excellent Easter Eggs if you've seen Zeta before watching it.

According to Mark, both the movies and TV show compliment each other. The logic is that aside from obvious retcons, stuff from the TV show just occured off screen as it were in the official timeline.
