Galaxy High

Anyone else remember this show? I remember liking it as a kid. When i saw that crunchyroll has it i decided to watch an ep and i have to say its a pretty neat concept that still holds up today, amazingly enough. The main character kind of reminds me of a teenage version of Fry from Futurama.

This topic I think belongs on the retro board, but oh well. Anyway I remember this show, I watched a few episodes recentely on line.

It was funny, it has its messages, but not too prechy like other 80's cartoons. Now that you mentioned it, this characters and setting, it is like Futurama.

Not only great writing, but an awesome cast, they had the actress that voiced Ursella in the Little Mermaid, as well as a pre Simpsons Nancy Cartwright, among others.

I don't really see any similarities between Doyle Cleverlobe and Fry, other than them both being fish out of water (and that's not even a unique trait shared by them both since the main girl of the show, Aimee Brighttower, was likewise displaced from Earth).

Personality-wise, Doyle was a bit more like Reggie Mantle or Flash Thompson, a overconfident jock jerk. He was Big Man On Campus back on Earth and he expected to carry the same clout in Galaxy High, but he spent the rest of the series getting shot down, whereas Aimee, who was the shy wallflower/bookworm on Earth, became the popular girl in Galaxy High.

But yeah, I remember Galaxy High. It was a cool, quirky show. My favorite characters were probably the Bonk Bunch; generally I don't like cartoon bully characters, but Beef Bonk, Earl Ecch and Rotten Roland had a certain wackiness to them that made you like them despite what punks they were. (Earl Ecch was a lot like me as a teenager; beligerent and always paranoid about being stepped on.)

Galaxy High
was a favorite show of my mom's; when it ran on CBS on Saturday mornings, she'd get up and watch it with us. Her favorite character was always The Creep; she loved his singing. :anime:

I saw the pilot ep online. It was pretty darn good. I'd love to see a revival of this; it had a good solid idea behind it.

At one point Vanguard Animation (the studio behind Valiant and Space Chimps) had a CGI film called Galaxy High listed as an up-and-coming project on their site. I remeber posting a link to it here and asking if it was a revival of the 80s series, and people said it was. Haven't heard from it since then.

I thought it was a great cartoon. It is too bad it only lasted one season. I thought it was a little ahead of its time. I bought the DVD releases that came out a few years ago. They are bare bones sets, but nice to have.
