Have you been following a new or recent show from Japan and been wishing that it would get licensed? Or have you ever wished that FUNimation would redub or finish releasing a certain show?

Good. Here's your chance to directly tell them how you feel and what you would buy & recommend. From FUNimation Blog:

On the list are a vast majority of the new shows that premiered this spring, as well as some interesting recent titles like Casshern Sins and Toradora. Hayate Season 2 is on the survey, so fans of that would do well to show support.

And also...they're testing the waters for a complete redub of Sailor Moon and Initial D.

Yeah. Whoa.

If you really, really care, I suggest writing comments in the survey and maybe in the comments section of the blog post as well. These are worth reading by the way, I've seen at least one good idea there at a glance already (redubbed Cardcaptor Sakura! Yes, I think so too).

I will fill out the survey, naturally. But first I think I need to seriously think through what I ought to ask for in the comments that is not on the survey.

Hey, Kodocha fans...don't forget to say a few worRAB in the comment field. Gotta keep hope alive.

Isn't there already a non-Nirvana dub of Cardcaptor, though?

And I have to say this people: Re-dubbing Sailor Moon takes priority over everything else. Package it with Dragonball Kai, I don't care!

If FUNi could get Kaiba I will support them forever. (Well, not like I don't already do that) Seriously, Kaiba is one of those shows that I figured nobody in America would even acknowledge.

I wonder about that...I just looked up the old Geneon release and Amazon says that it was Japanese with English subtitles.

It's kind of a moot point either way though, since the sets for the show are literally collector items at this point and so the only truly viable option is collecting single volumes. The show is generally rare, expensive, and hard to get. A fresh release is needed.

Apparently Animax dubbed it, but it was available only in a certain Pacific region.

I do remeraber a comparison dub, and agreeing if they took Matt Hill's Keros into the new dub, it would be perfect.

I would only support a Sailor Moon redub if FUNi was willing to get it out to the widest audience possible (i.e., not just to the fans). Also consider that even though the survey mentions it, it may ultimately end up not being a redub of the "entire" series if Toei has anything to say about it. Also, the show has exactly 200 episodes. How long would it take to release the entire series?

With this in mind, and since all the questions are "required", I decided not to take the survey because as far as the survey itself goes, I have no comment. That, plus I also suspect that this survey may be expecting a certain answer (and thus I suspect Funimation may have already licensed one of the titles on the list, possibly Casshern Sins, also making it possible that the titles in question may be listed in order of internal priority).

If Sailor Moon get's a FUNi redub, I think we'll at least see the original Sailor Moon series and Sailor Moon R redubbed, since those were the heavily edited only episodes originally dubbed by DiC. Sailor Moon S and Sailor Moon Super S are another question, as those had full uncut dubs by Cloverway (Toei's American branch company). Although, those seasons could be redubbed as well, just for continuity and possible improvement of quality. I honestly can't watch the dubs of Sailor Moon S and Sailor Moon Super S because of Lina Ballantyne's Usagi, which is just plain unbearable and she's the main character.

Another question is how FUNi would handle a redub? Would they stick true to the original Japanese names and terms, or would they have to use the DiC and Cloverway terms used in the previous English dub? I think it is a no brainer that if a redub is done, it will be with FUNi's own inhouse cast of voice actors, because I highly doubt they would bother outsourcing to the Canadian recording studios. Unless Toei insists that FUNi does so otherwise. In all honesty, I wasn't a big fan of the original English dub cast anyway, so I'd perfectly be happy with a new set of voice actors from FUNi's own wonderful voice acting pool.

My comment:

I'm not really a fan of any of these titles, but Sailor Moon seems to have such a big fanbase with my 'Toonami' Generation of Anime fans that I'd like to 'give back' by helping them get a new R1 release (with you're guys' great production values).

Voted for the Sailor Moon redub. Any chance of this show getting a full and proper re-release is something I will back 100%.

Although, I'm still wondering if Toei will comply considering their stranglehold on the property and Takeuchi's dispute. If anything, FUNimation would have to be fully trusted by Toei before they can get Sailor Moon. But, after the success of One Piece and the warm reception from the online streams of Toei's other properties (Fist of the North Star, Captain Harlock, etc.), I think FUNimation may have a hot iron on their hanRAB of which to strike.

So, all the fans should seriously get to voting for the redub of Sailor moon. FUNimation neeRAB all the evidence they can get to prove to Toei that Sailor Moon is still a hot property in the west.

Vote anyway. Even if the show you want doesn't get licensed, you at least shown that you care about the show enough to see it licensed.

Wow, I was really surprised to see a redub of Sailor Moon as one of the choices. Naturally I voted for it because that would be fantastic. Unfortunately I haven't been able to check out most of the newer shows, but I did put in a vote for Rideback... and in the comments a mention of Daughter of Twenty Faces *cough*

I'm very glad to see Zetsubou-sensei on there. I always had them pegged for the show, and I'd really like to see what they can do with a dub. Actually, I think it would be pretty difficult because of all the Japan centric jokes and references. Anyhow, that was the first thing to come to mind other than the newer Spring season stuff (Basquash and Eden in particular). Please license all this good stuff Funi!
