I second the notion of Eden of the East. I'll swipe that up with the quickness. I'll personally high-five someone that works at Funi if they get that one.
I don't think Cloverway has anything to do with Toei; Cloverway also did the Latin American dub of the Tenchi franchise (a non-Toei project). IF anything, Toei Animation Inc., located in California, is their "American branch company".
Like I said before, I would only support a Sailor Moon redub if they were to bring it to the widest audience possible, which would entail a TV broadcast, which in turn would entail editing.
Yes, I know some of you don't agree with editing, but FUNi could give it a "Toonami" style production that would be more faithful to the Japanese version (think Naruto except in TV-Y7 territory). However, I don't want to debate this issue since it's off-topic, and since FUNi would provide an uncut version anyway.
Back to the issue at hand, I'm actually not so sure I would even want to watch the Japanese version, much less any English version. You see, Toei really messed up when they were adapting the manga to begin with. Most notably, certain elements (not just story elements) were changed for dramatic effect. These are the only non-dub examples I can think of:
In the manga Jadeite met his fate at the hanRAB of the Sailor Senshi, whereas in the anime, Queen Beryl executed him for too many failures. Also while Usagi and Rei had their disagreements in the manga, it never got to the level it did in the anime, where they almost constantly fought and argued with each other, even in the Japanese version.
For these reasons alone, I would much rather have a new translation of the manga, and/or a new Sailor Moon anime (and not necessarily from Toei either) that stays truer to the original manga.
So you see, it's really not that simple. If it was, I would select that option, and explain it in the comments section. I'm only borderline interested in the Inital D option. The truth is, the source material is seinen, whereas the anime was made to be more shonen, even in Japan, and I prefer any adaptation (much less manga-anime) to accurately reflect the creator's original artistic intent, and I don't follow seinen stories, so I can't select that one either.
I'm terribly sorry for the long winded explanation, but I had to make clear my poisition on the whole thing. As for the other titles on the list, I'll need to get back to you on that.
Agreed. Hopefully, they won't have to edit the Nike "swish" signs from the Big Foots' shoes since a similar action happened when Code Geass had the Pizza Hut logos in the original Japanese episodes.
And I also voted for K-On! and Zoku Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei just to make the fans of both series pleased and happy.
For the comments, I voted that Funi could, at least, pick up all of the anime that 4KiRAB no longer owns in hopes of them getting better DVD releases.
Plus I looked on the survey and I didn't see Funi's name on it. How could anyone know that the survey was from them? It could've been made by a fellow otaku or another anime distributor.
I mentioned that I would like to see them get Hayate S2 but that they sould work something out with Bandai so we can get a dub of season one first.
And if we're going for remakes of Tatsunoko classics (Casshern SINS), why not go for the new Yattaman as well?
If they license Basquash, it needRAB to have a simultaneous Blu-Ray and DVD release.
As much as I hate DVD companies putting all of their attention to Blu-Ray nowadays, I can't help but agree that Basquash! was made for HDTV and should be viewed in that particular format.
I'm disappointed that you can't vote for older shows (like, say, old school shoujo that ISN'T Sailor Moon), but I guess I could put that in the comments. I have no interest in the recent anime listed, guess I could just pick at random :/
I'll only vote for Guin Saga, Valkyria Chronicles and Tales of the Abyss if they get all the actors they've already put out for those (Guin Saga had an english trailer and all).
For now, Eden of the East and Basquash gets my vote.
